What is productivity?

It is about how a country organises itself. It has everything to do with the government. The proper way to achieve productivity growth is to produce higher value-added goods and services whilst holding the total no. of workers constant.

We hold technology constant (ceterus paribas) too. Technology moves in cycle and it is something we cannot control/time.

The scholars knew what is productivity definitely. Once upon a time, they tried pushing for productivity growth through high value-added hubs. The PAP were promoting the merits of this hub and that hub. Alas, the scholars picked all the wrong hubs except 2 - pharmaceuticals and petrochemicals. Even though these two big-ticket industries are able to skew GDP growth through exports, they are unable to create many meaningful jobs. That's why we use NODX as a measurement. I hereby propose NOPE. Not just non-oil but non-pharmaceuticals domestic exports as well.

Today, the scholars are even cleverer. They try to slow down workers intake whilst keeping GDP growth chugging along, so that productivity will grow - mathematically. It is pure playing with statistics, not genuine growth.

The scholars knew what is economic restructuring too. Once upon a time, they tried to push restructuring using CPF increases. CPF increases are simply wage AND salary increases. It was the most puzzling exercise. It was across the board (applied to everybody including the CEO) which raised the costs of businesses and led to a recession. They should have used Minimum Wage which applied to only the lowest wage workers.

In the last 10 years, the scholars have been singing a different tune about the merits of foreigners. The government imported foreigners to drive GDP growth.

Productivity declined and income inequality grew due to depressed wages.

GDP = Wages + Salaries + Profits + Rents + Interests + Statistical Adjustment.

The only component that didn't grow is wages. When people talk about addressing income inequality, it is about correcting policies that are detrimental to the people. It is robust mainstream Economics. It is not Leftism, Socialism, Welfarism, etc. as insinuated.

The deliberate attempt to bring in foreigners is anti-Economics. Anyone who claims a slow-down in foreign labour will affect Singapore's competitiveness is bullshitting. Our comparative advantage was never in labour-intensive industries.

High costs of living and low wages do not co-exist in Economics. They only happen in Singapore due to the manipulative hand of a government with absolute power, including over the unions.

Workers' and employers' efficiencies will not drive GDP growth in any meaningful way, certainly not 3%. In any case, such kind of efficiencies will lead to either higher unemployment or lower wages. LOL! The unions have been trolling the workers.

Why did productivity soar to above 10% in 2010 and declined thereafter? It was because the government placed $4.5 billion cash in the hands of employers in 2010, causing GDP growth to soar to 15% and of course productivity soared too. It was a one-off spectacular embarassment, not achievement. It is not something meaningful to study or for any discussion.

Labour demand is additive, not addictive. Employers look at total wage bill as a whole. Foreign worker levies increase whereas local wage subsidies decrease total wage bill. So the two policies are conflicting and do not make sense. They have been concocted to appease the employers. The government takes away a lot and gives back a little.

FWL = wages paid by employers - wages received by workers

FWL is wages usurped by the government. It is extreme economic distortion that destroys productivity growth. The bigger the FWL, the bigger the disconnect between wages paid and wages received. If the government, employers and unions accept FWL, there is something very wrong with tripartism.

The Population White Paper will self-shred. Any major economic downturn will create a de-multiplier effect, so big that it could sink Singapore. This is what I meant when I said the higher you climb the harder you fall. The bigger the multiplier, the bigger the de-multiplier also. The $100 billion train system expansion (outdated Keynesian-type of fiscal stimulus to keep PAP in power for the next 5 years) is a fatal mistake that cannot be corrected. It will be perennially loss-making. Even if it were profitable, the government needs 200 years to recover the money. We have not even added in the opportunity costs.

So what is the conclusion? Picking hubs is actually the correct policy. Even though it is very difficult with failures after failures, we should have remained steadfast. There are bound to be one or two winners eventually. But the PAP didn't have the gumption because of it is afraid of losing seats.

We lost one decade of precious time.

Finally, I would like to say something about an island, a capital and a country. The scholars seem to have missed this point repeatedly in their policies despite many people highlighting it. They really must have mental blocks or they disagree. They like to compare Singapore to Tokyo, Boston, London, etc. This is so stupid. Singapore is an island, a capital city and a country all rolled into one. A spider-web MRT system that mimics Tokyo is so wrong. Tokyo is just a city in big Japan. Growing Singapore's populaton to overtake other cities is so silly. Boston, Sydney, London, etc. are just cities within big countries. Even Hong Hong is a city within a big country.

There is something worse than GST hike. The PAP is so clever in keeping our tax regime low - on paper. They are now using community funding instead of tax funding.

CPF Life and Universal Healthcare are nothing but community funding - with a huge twist. The poor may end up subsidising the rich.

The CPF Minimum Sum and Minimum Withdrawal Age have been increasing. That is the first part of the story. The second part is that our CPF is no longer our own money under the new CPF schemes which are longevity and healthcare insurances in disguise. The second part is even more objectionable than the first.

MediShield Life is being sold as universal healthcare. But it is the pay-in that is universal, the pay-out is NOT. Calling MediShield Life a universal healthcare scheme is extremely misleading when the government foots only 40% of Singapore's healthcare costs (up from 30% previously).

Housing is a problem. The second generation leaders sold the idea of home-ownership, investment, upgrading and asset enhancement so well. It was a runaway
success because we could use CPF money. Even MUP which cost $20,000+ were paid using CPF money. We even have to pay ourselves forgone CPF interest rate of 2.5% if we sell our HDB flats.

We are celebrating SG50. And the government has been haranguing us about an ageing population. Yet it pretends not to know our flats are getting old too.

The truth is the 3rd generation leaders have U-turned. Housing is no longer treated as an investment, it is now treated as a consumption. Suddenly, instead of asset enhancement and upgrading, the government just tells us our flats would be worthless at the end of 99 years. Many Second Generation Singaporeans ("SGS") became collateral damage due to a policy change.

The government has been preventing people from monetising their flats. The starting age of Lease Buyback gets deferred again and again in line with deferment of CPF withdrawals. It is so sickening. It has the opposite effect of forcing people to continue to over-consume on housing. The government doesn't know that downsizing as early as possible to smaller apartments is belt-tightening and putting money back into the CPF to earn real money. They insult Singaporeans by saying it is irresponsible.

Even if it was irresponsible, Singaporeans are just taking out the cash portion, not the CPF portion. SGS have spent as much as $100,000 on Cash Over Valuation. They have spent tens of thousand dollars on renovation. All these monies were from their own pockets.

The soon to be obsolete Studio Apartment Scheme was 55 + 30 = 85. Under the new 2-room Flexi Scheme, the condition becomes tougher at 95.

2-room, 3-room, 4-room and 5-room flats are integrated. BTO flats take years to bid successfully, complete and wait for hand over. Usually 5 to 7 years.

For the young and the singles, if they can't wait, they can always go to the resale market. But for many senior citizens, they can't. Downgrading cannot occur
until they are effectively 60 to 62 years old. Now that is another 5 - 7 years of forced over-consumption of housing due to a government policy.

Now that there is another tough condition of "live until 95", shouldn't the current tough condition of having to wait 5 to 7 years be eliminated?

The sooner the seniors can downgrade the sooner the CPF money is return to their CPF accounts. The window of opportunity to invest is from 55 to 65. By having to wait 5 to 7 years, the window of opportunity got so narrow that it becomes unmeaningful.

An educated guess on the train breakdowns.

Power failure due to a pletora of excuses (salt water, rain water, dislodged claws, cracked cable) are not systemic. Excuses are just excuses. The root problem is due to increased train frequencies and over-usage as a result of an enlarged population.

- SMRT trains draw power from the third rail.
- The additional trains to cope with increased passenger loads are heavier and can be problematic. (see next paragraph.)

LTA added more trains to the MRT lines. Train breakdowns started when the heavier C151 A-version came into service just a few years ago. The contract was worth S$368 million. In May 2015, the first batch of B-version was delivered. The contract is worth S$281.5 million. (Nobody knows if the B-version is still on trial runs or already in service.)

The frantic madness to change the sleepers is strong evidence of the diagnosis.

But after the latest major breakdown, SMRT say upgrading of sleepers would not be the top priority. Apparently, the diagnosis changed. Now, all the power cables would be upgraded. However, either excuse still boils down to the root problem - over-usage. If there is a root-root problem, it is the design flaw of the MRT system itself. The system is based on 6-carriage trains instead of 8-carriage trains. If there is a root-root-root problem, a huge population was never factored-in in the original plan of the train system.

Growth is not cost-free. LTA changed the signalling system, the sleepers, the power cables, the trains. It is almost like building a new MRT system except for the structure. What are the costs? Who bears?

When almost everything is changed. It is called an over-haul, NOT maintenance. It is the most overt evidence that the train system cannot cope with the increased passenger load.

It is a transparency and accountability problem.

nice economics thesis.

PAP has gone down a very dangerous path, its no longer about productivity or organic growth or boosting workers wages or individual standards of living.they have created a economy of slaves, right now the masses of foreign workers are willing to accept exploitation, less than ideal working and living conditions and lower wages because its better than what they have back home, but 10 or 20 years down the road once they have assimilated and become part of the main population,im not too sure it they are willing to accept the same conditions or let their offsprings be subjected to it.thats when the entire population ponzi economics fall.

the PAP doesnt see the population as one organic being, rather they see different foreigners as filling up different niches of the economy and or serving a business need.a country has to grow together as a whole.

I never intended to share my ideas with the Opposition parties for fear of abuses of them. I did it because I didn't like the gutter politics of PAP.

Some of the ideas that can be used.

Minimum Wage:
The PAP says if we picked a level too low, it won't be effective. If we picked a level too high, there will be unemployment.

The Opposition can reply like this:
The PAP's incompetence is not a weakness of the Minimum Wage proposal. Morever, given such a depressed wage level in Singapore, there is plenty of margin for error.

All Opposition parties should also be consistent. Since the SDP and a reputable economist have proposed $7 per hour. All should stick to it.

MediShield Life:
All Opposition parties should take a unified stand and criticise it - "universal pay-in (all Singaporeans kena) without universal pay-out".

For it to be qualified as "universal", even the meanest government in the world would foot 50.00001% of the bill, not 40%. A genuine compassionate government would foot 60% to 70% of the bill and not say it will turn Singapore into Greece.

Foreign Workers levies and wage subsidies:
The government takes away a whole chicken and gives back a chicken feet to the employers. It is a reason for rising business costs and higher costs of living.

Dear
fellow Opposition supporters,

I have a message that I urgently want to share. The time has come for us to
do our part for Singapore
. Nevertheless, we must not repeat the mistakes of
2011.

At the last general elections in 2011, 39.9% voted for the opposition and
this resulted in the opposition winning 6 out of 87 seats. After the election
results, opposition supporters were quick to blame the 60.1% for giving the PAP
such a large majority in parliament and the mandate for unpopular and unwanted
policies like the Population White Paper. Rather than blame the 60.1% for the
results, many of the 39.9% of opposition voters should also blame themselves for
doing nothing except voting against the PAP. Yes, you guys voted against the
PAP. But that is not enough if you want real democratic progress.

How many of the 39.9% actually volunteered to help the opposition parties
they were supporting? Only a small minority!
Did you really think your pathetic
one vote was going to be enough to topple the PAP? The GRC system has already
diluted the value of your vote, so your one vote is insufficient. That is why it
is so important for the opposition parties to cover as much of the GRC as
possible during the short 9 day campaign period! If you want to send a strong
message to the PAP, you have to go all out and help the opposition parties to
get the necessary manpower to cover ground. Their activists will be tired and
overstretched as the campaign goes on. Your single contribution may actually
change the outcome in a hotly contested constituency like East Coast GRC,
Holland-Bukit Timah GRC or Marine Parade GRC.

What if an opposition party lost narrowly just because they did not manage to
cover certain parts of your GRC in the short election period? What if the few
house visits that you helped the party conduct garnered that last bit of support
necessary for them to cross the 50% mark?

All you have to do is distribute flyers, hang banners, be a polling agent or
spend a few hours doing house visits.
You can even choose what you want to do.
The real battle is not fought at the rally stage but at the HDB heartlands, at
the door of every HDB unit. You do not have to volunteer every single day!
You
just need to dedicate an hour or two of your free time to help the opposition
party you believe in. Who knows? You may even get a free party T-shirt as a
souvenir.

If you do nothing other than cursing the PAP online every single day, that is
not going to help make things better for you or anyone else.
General elections
come only once every 4 or 5 years. If you are frustrated with the government’s
policies but are not willing to spare even 1 hour during a special 9 day
election period that only occurs once in 4 or 5 years, you cannot say that you
have truly contributed to the Opposition cause. You would then have only
yourself to blame for the election outcome.

If you do not have confidence in the opposition party contesting in your
area, you can always volunteer to help out elsewhere.
For instance, my area is
being contested by the NSP. I am going to volunteer with the WP and/or SDP.
Whatever help you render, it beats staying at home and being a passive
observer.

Some among us do not know how to volunteer with an opposition party. Is it so
hard? Nope. You just have to fill up an online form and they’ll contact you.
Here you go!

I strongly recommend volunteering with the WP, SDP or SPP since they will be
involved in the hottest contests this GE and they have the highest chances of
winning. Your single contribution might be crucial in moving the votes in favour
of the opposition. Every one of us, regardless of race, language or religion is
valuable to the opposition cause.

Let’s work together to ensure that we have a better Singapore after this
general election. Thank you.

Steady lah! Altogether now! HUAT AH!

It is ok if they want to plagiarised what I have been shouting from top of the soap box here.
I happily donate all rights to all that I wrote to Singapore and Singaporeans

OPPOSITIONS ARE THE DIFFERENT FACES OF THE TRUE SINGAPORE
PAP IS THE FACE OF SEPTIC OVERFLOWING TOILET BOWLS AND CORRUPTIONS AND OF STINKAPORE

Cleanse PAP Stinkapore into Singaporeans Singapore.
Vote only opposition
Vote out all the fucking corrupt PAPs

This fight is not just your voting for opposition, any opposition against the PAP
Singaporeans must do much more than just relying on their single vote.
Give them the money to support them in the fight.
Give them your time and energy to support them in the fight
They fight for you Singaporeans
They fight our common enemy
They fight the PAP and cronies, corrupt and rotten to the core, who stole over 180 billions from Singaporeans, and intent on stealing even more from us.

Support Opposition, any Opposition, all Opposition
Regardless if they have primary school, or O levels or A levels or PhD
Regardless if they wear singlets, or tuxedos
Support Opposition, any Opposition, all Opposition
Regardless if they wear slippers, or wear sneakers or shoes
Support Opposition, any Opposition, all Opposition
Even if a rat crawl out of a sewer and stand as Opposition
Even if a cockroach with 6 legs and 2 long feelers at the head become Opposition
They will be much better for Singaporeans than the fucking corrupt perverted PAPs who only think of laughing all the way to their banks and back from the banks
Under the fucking PAP, Singaporeans are the 4th class citizens in their own land stolen from them by PAP
PAPs are the 2nd class citizens with the Lee family as the first class aristocrazies
Fts are taken in as the 3rd class citizens kicking singaporeans into the 4th class and sinkies good only to go head down down and arseholes up high high to be fucked and tiewed by PAPs laughing all the way to their banks.

The PAP prefers to bankrupt the people!!!!

It is a lesson on bad spin-doctoring.

The PAP and its proxies insinuated that if the government bears a heavier burden on healthcare, it will be bankrupted. Using reverse logic, they are implying it is preferable for the people to be bankrupted. Now, we know why there are stories of people committing suicide, having to sell their houses, receiving letters of demand from lawyers.

"For us, with us, for Singapore" is BS!
"Can afford to die but cannot afford to fall sick" is NOT!
The second statement is a sad fact of life in Singapore.

The PAP GE2011 Manifesto says it will spend $100 billion on MRT expansion. Not a single word has been uttered on where the money is from. The PAP asked Tan Jee Say if he knew how many zeroes are there in $60 billion. Well, it is one zero less than $100 billion with another $40 billion to spare.

Edited: The SDP should ask Vivian Bala back, if the people bear the burden, where are the sources of finance? Out of pocket, sell house, bad debt, loanshark, friends, forced savings (i.e., MediSave)? If so, there is nothing universal about MediShield Life
