If Singaporeans still need further evidence as to the motives and self-serving interests of Han Hui Hui, they need look no further than her actions over the past month. Here’s someone who’s barely worked for the past 3 years since leaving her studies, here’s someone who shamelessly publishes her account details asking tens of thousands of people to donate just $1, so she can shake legs whilst claiming to fight for you.
She’ll say whatever needs to be said for each audience in order to win their support, slamming foreigners whilst seeking financial support from overseas donors, and omitting to state she herself is a new citizen of 3 years. But nothing’s worse than her actions of the past month. Kenneth Jeyaretnam (KJ) and his Reform Party has given her much support for her ‘activism,’ even speaking at her protests and condemning her charges.
No other politician or party wants to associate with her, but KJ likes to champion the under-dog and those who find themselves at odds with the PAP Govt, in the same spirit of his father – JBJ. I have had my runs-in with KJ, I disagree with some of his methods and I doubt we’ll be meeting for coffee any time soon.
However I still laud his tenacity and his determined efforts to carry on the fight that his father started. He still needs to learn some things and do others differently, but even his father took 5 elections before succeeding – even getting thrashed along the way (winning something like 27-28% of the vote in 1 contest). But he’ll get there eventually – after all he’s spent much of his life overcoming the odds and having his fair share of detractors.
But while I may doubt his methods, I don’t doubt his sincerity and he’s been nothing but sincere and upfront to Ms Han. She initially assisted in his outreach in AMK GRC, prior to the calling of the elections together with Roy Ngerng. So when Roy was being considered as a potential candidate (eventually chosen), she thought that likewise – she too would be selected.
Let’s not beat around the bush, I have been one of Roy’s greatest detractors and I stand by many of the things I said then. However I did say, it was not personal – I was concerned he was taking the wrong advice – associating with wrong persons and not doing the overall opposition any good with some of his antics.
However if he’s learned from his mistakes and focuses on the things he needs to do, and is prepared to contribute in the right way and listen to advice by those older and wiser than him like KJ and M Ravi, I’m more than happy to hold my pen and let bygones be bygones. And my sources within the Reform Party have confirmed this, he’s knuckled down, rolled up his sleeves and doing things for the party and citizenry. Despite the obvious inferences by others – given his run-in with the PM, he has thus far avoided any mention of those matters and isn’t making the contest in AMK GRC a personal one against Lee Jr. And that’s the correct spirit.
Which contrasts entirely with Ms Han. She’s stubborn - insists on doing things her own way, refuses to listen to advice and follow orders, worse – she’s prone to making unsubstantiated claims and could easily land the party and its CEC in a potentially crippling lawsuit. She’s also naïve, very inexperienced with no track record, no knowledge of raising a family or coping as many other Singaporeans, being a new citizen, refuses to work and is quick to ask for donations for each and everything she does – even unnecessary causes. She knew her previous lawsuit against the CPE was futile, but insisted on proceeding anyway, and got nearly $30,000 in crowd-funding. This has obviously emboldened her and by observing Roy’s own efforts in that aspect. In a nut shell, she lacks every possible quality that’s required in a candidate – including sincerity, honesty and the willingness to sacrifice for party and nation.
Therefore it came as no surprise that her desire to be a candidate was duly rejected. She was not even considered for party membership. Now what would someone sincere do? Yes – they’ll raise their hands and say, ‘ok – maybe next time, in the meantime, let me help by offering my services to get your team and my friend Roy elected.’ But not her – instead she went into a hissy fir and in order to spite both KJ and the Reform Party – decided to run in an SMC she knew they would always be contesting – Radin Mas.
This was despite the fact she knew that KJ had been seriously considering running there himself or putting Kumar Appavoo (who has a background in opposition politics – his father was a long time opposition stalwart). Instead in a FB post – she is telling everyone that she’s looking for donations for the contesting deposit in order to prevent a ‘walkover.’
There’s never been any indication that this SMC would be a walkover, even in the event the Reform Party wanted to pull out, other parties would have stepped in, notably SingFirst. Yet Ms Han had no qualms about omitting this fact and used her typical method -asking 10,000 people to donate $1 so she could run. She’s since declared that she’s got this amount – it’s not however clear who has donated this – whether it was gullible Singaporeans or overseas donors – I have a suspicion it might include the latter, because she’s been flying to Hong Kong to meet protest leaders there.
Now she’s gone even further – asking for further donations in the thousands to hold rallies, banners, flyer and the like, grossly inflating the amount for each of these. This leads me to the following conclusions:
1) If she runs and secures 12.5% of the votes, she’ll get her deposit back, since many might be anonymous donors, she’ll probably come up with some excuse to use it for ‘other purposes.’ If she doesn’t get the required votes – ‘who cares, not my money,’ forfeit forfeit lor.’
2) If she gets further donations, she might have a token rally and other election activity, keeping the rest of the inflated requests.
3) If she’s unable to run at all – insufficient assenters and nominees, well, she still has the donated sum to fall back on.
Which of the 3 will be the outcome? And further to this she claims she’s running in Radin Mas, because of her ‘connections’ there – what rubbish, if so, why did she want to contest in AMK GRC? And her other reason about fighting for CPF returns – well what does she think the other parties are doing? Even Roy has stated he intends to make this a major campaign issue – so why must she want to barge in when opposition candidates have taken up the cudgels? I gather she even wants to organise another protest at Hong Lim Park during the hustings – this is not a time for activism or protests. This is an election campaign with rallies all over the island. Activists should not be doing anything to sway voters away from parties and their candidates or message.
But suffice to say, we can already conclude that Han Hui Hui’s sole purpose in this election is to serve Han Hui Hui’s interests. Some people long ago suggested she was a ‘mole’ – planted to destroy the opposition from within – anyone associating with her, will be tarnished. Well I don’t want to speculate on that – but I would say she’s a ‘rat’ whose selfish interests is to destroy the chances of the RP candidate in Radin Mas.
This is an election where many opposition candidates in SMCs stand a very good chance of a very good showing – over 40% of the votes, some might just be able to cross the line – if they can rekindle the people’s anger on immigration and employment – the 2 hot button issues. Therefore it’s no surprise that some of those who are encouraging her to run, are none other than PAP fan boys.
Conclusion
Han Hui Hui is just a spiteful woman with a major chip on her shoulder. She’s selfish and is not here to serve. If there’s an argument why we shouldn’t be giving out citizenship – she’s the classic example. If you donate to her, you risk throwing good money after bad. Her actions these past 2 years deserve nothing but the choicest condemnation. It’s time we Singaporeans register our disgust at these kind of actions, which is to destroy the opposition cause. If you really want to donate, then donate to the Reform Party or others but not her. That would be best response to her actions.
