Imo, Saliva Lim Swee Lian is the real daughter of S'pore. Before her, WP did not attract the "England fighter jets." It was perceived, rightly or wrongly, as a "Chinese helicopter" party. She tilted that perception to one that is now neutral. The real deal came in 2011 when a gentleman joined the WP - Ah Mao. Most people then wondered why such an accomplished gentleman would give up his career to join the WP. The impact he made was significant. No surprise he attracted He Ting Ru to the WP. I am quite sure Leon was also partly or fully influenced by CSM's entry to WP.

Ah Lian joined WP when the opposition as a whole was at its lowest - just after the 2001 elections. At that time the opposition had lost a lot of support and appeared not credible. GCT was laughing his way to the bank - having pulled off the stunt of calling for erection after 9/11 terrorist attacks on WTC.

After Ah Lian and LTK rebuilt up, then the others slowly came in. They were the ones who really made 2011 and 2015 possible.

If she had stayed on in the SPF, could well have been S'pore's first woman CP. None of the charbors in SPF comes close.

Hey Dragooon, obviously you have never attended any of CSM's MPSs because if you have, you would have been impressed by the number of highly motivated and educated youths present as support staff. Besides interacting with residents and providing services as petition writers, they were there to learn and brainstorm with seasoned WP old horses. Some of these young turks are now surfacing as WP candidates - prepared for the GE and beyond in parliament for service to our nation.
