Saw this elderly collecting cardboard at AMK MRT station.
I gave him some money to help him out.

He stays in a 3-room flat with his son and daughter who are both single.

He suffers from walking discomfort and ambles weakly to collect the cardboard.

He also says its difficult to get any financial assistance from welfare organisations.

He mentions collecting cardboard for survival thrice during the short interview.

The government has recently introduced a Silver Package for our elderly whereby they will receive between $300 to $750 per quarter starting next year.

You decide if he collects for fun or really need the money from the 4-minute video.

The old man has family and he is a property owner. He is not as destitute as he makes himself out to be. With his HDB flat, he's sitting on a gold mine. There's some reverse mortgage scheme for people like him to convert his home into a cash cow by selling back part of the lease to HDB.

Lucky bastard! If he was a mudlander or indon pauper, he would be begging by now.

Didn't know Ang Mo Kio has so many elderly poor collecting cardboards.

This auntie had tears in her eyes when I offered her some money to ease her burden while making my way home from AMK Central after giving out our Reform Party Leaflets.

She also made my day after a hard day of campaigning and running around trying to book the rally stadium for tomorrow.

She reminded me of my own mum whom I neglected of late as I started my campaign for AMK GRC three weeks ago.

I took video of several poor old cardboard collectors almost daily for the past few days while campaigning.

There must be at least four videos taken so far of these poor elderly either working as tiolet cleaner or cardboard collectors.

One even begged for money at the central.

What are you doing Mr Prime Minister? What a shame...this happens in your ward!
