it's a constitutional flaw of any sovereign cuntry to allow the aspirations, desires and wishes of conglomerates and corporations, be they private, government-linked, state-owned, or multinational, to be directly and indirectly running and spearheading the cuntry's policies on trade, immigration, labor, etc. it has serious conflict of interests issues for the long term viability of nation-building and identity continuation and consistency. you either have an independent gov dictating and regulating fair play rules for a bunch of corporations or a gov working with both corporations and citizens to strike a healthy happy balance of co-existence, but not a gov which is also morphing into a conglomerate of corporations, gov-linked and multinational, to run roughshod and steamroll over any checks and balance. ultimately the "corporation", a.k.a. sg inc., will have higher allegiances to its multinational shareholders, holdings, and global presence and shed allegiance and sympathy to its original cuntry, constitution and citizenry.

In short, the morality of a govt. Morality to do the right thing for the citizens and not others.

Just for this reason of not protecting citizens' rights to jobs, nobody should vote for PAP.

Even if you are rich and no need a job now, you don't want to end up in a society where Singaporeans are doing bottom rank jobs while plum jobs go to foreigners.

When this happen, all Singaporeans will become unimportant voice and be despised, especially when the numbers become a minority.

Only people with morality can demand govt to have morality. If the people themselves are corrupted, then they should not be asking for a govt with morality. Most Singaporeans - including my family and I - live a life of honest living (do not cheat others) and good morality. We are qualified to demand a govt of morality.

it's not morality but priority and loyalty of corporate-style ownership over civic-mindedness and duty. it's not a moral issue but an integrity issue of selfishness. look at some major u.s. corporations. after making billions off the u.s. market, they decided to move their hq's to other cuntries when financial and labor conditions do not favor them if they remain. ultimately they will settle in some desperate decrepit cuntries which offer them the sun and moon. for short term gain, they will sell their collective soul to the devil.

Overwhelming majority of sinkies are anything but moral. Whatever scrap of morality they claim to have is often based on convenience and pragmatism. Sacrifices are often only made when the costs are low and inconsequential to the big picture.

Most sinkies know that Ah Gong worked for the Japs and probably jailed the Barisan Socialists on flimsy evidence, but they still voted for him into power with huge majority simply because PAP and Ah Gong brought about a lot of economic progress.

Today, sinkies are pissed with PAP not because of morality issues but only because bread-and-butter issues are at stake - ie. the immigrant and foreign workers' issue.

If not for the foreigners issue, most sinkies would have continued to vote in PAP in overwhelming numbers even if PAP should suddenly decide to put away all of WP's CEC for some unknown reason.

Yes I agree with you totally. I remember telling my friends in 1997 that it is very arrogant and not right for PAP to tie elections to upgrading but nobody cared. All only interested whether their estate got upgrading or not.

That is why I am so proud of my family who had voted in the right way - against arrogance and bullying - since day one and not kpkb only when they lost their jobs or their children can't get into university or their parents cannot get hospital beds.

A good speech by Lina Chiam. She stated that $3300 minimum salary for employment pass is too low and even insurance firms can hire agents on employment pass.

For comparison, just look across the causeway how protected other people are, it is "illegal for Singaporean agents to offer services in Malaysia".

Many firms are very creative with EP. Hire on paper for $4000, give them flashy titles, but force the workers to do S-Pass or menial work and return back the bulk of the $4k. If don't cooperate, forfeit agents fees and get sent home. I don't think MOM has caught a large percentage of such firms. Do let your local RC or MOM know if you have info. We work for the residents.

Raise tax ceiling on foreigners....we'll see how they react when they have to pay tax on 4k salary when they kicked back 2.5k to employer.

I can see that Malaysia govt did a good job in controlling the jobs that can be done for foreigners. Even lorry drivers are protected jobs! Foreigners are really only doing jobs that their locals do not want to do like construction, waiter, kitchen helper etc.

To solve this EP problem, MOM should learn from Msia to stipulate the jobs that are opened to foreigners. Then impose the salary limit. Without the category of jobs stipulated, firms can set any salary they wish and then get rebate like you said.

Even if they can't tax the income of foreigners higher, they can tax anything else higher like property tax, charge foreigners capital gain tax, etc which is what Msia is planning or has done!

I think this is the biggest reason to vote for oppo to speak up for people in parliament to ensure plum jobs go to Singaporeans and not like the example indicated in the article (only one Singaporean out of 15 in the Singapore MNC office while other countries MNC offices Thailand, Indonesia, Hong Kong have higher proportion of locals).

Yes I noticed that too, another thing PAP failed to do, even if we really need foreign talent at pmet level, PAP has failed to vet through their qualifications thoroughly, many degree mill holders and even whites with O levels can get high position jobs in Singapore. Why can't the PAP manage the flow of foreign talents properly?
