SINGAPORE: The Tanjong Pagar Town Council on Sunday (Aug 16) launched a five-year masterplan for its estates.
The masterplan for Tanjong Pagar GRC and Radin Mas SMC would include outdoor lifts and better connectivity. In the area's hilly terrain, there would be "sky bridges" to link the second and third storeys of buildings so that residents will not having to climb long and steep flights of stairs. The plan also includes more outdoor lifts with link bridges.
The town council is developing the plan in consultation with Government agencies such as the Housing and Development Board and Land Transport Authority, which took into account feedback from residents.
"Before, it would have been largely for elderly because it was an ageing mature estate. With this rejuvenation that we see, we're going to have to have more childcare facilities,” added MP Indranee Rajah, speaking at a party for the residents of the new Build-to-Order housing project Tiong Bahru View. “I think another important area is the linkways, some of them have sky bridges, but it's all about mobility and access, both for the elderly as well as for young families with prams."
Ms Indranee also lauded the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew for his work in the constituency. “What we have here is a tremendous legacy. What he has done for the area is astonishing and amazing. And you don't rest on the wonderful work of a previous generation. When a baton has been passed on, we now have to carry the responsibility and take it forward. We ourselves have to have our own vision of where we want to go. This is what he handed to us and it's our task to take it forward,” she said.
The founding Prime Minister was the Member of Parliament for Tanjong Pagar GRC.
