[h=1]Lim Swee Say’s warning: Singaporeans will lose more if they are not good and fast enough[/h]admin / 4 hours ago August 4, 2015

In his speech at the Lifelong Learning Institute today (August 4), Manpower Minister Lim Swee Say warned Singaporeans that they will lose more if they are not “good and fast enough”:
“As we progress up the global economic ladder, we will have to compete more and more with countries and cities that are bigger, stronger and hungrier than us for good investments and good jobs,” he said. “That is why the economic transition we are going through is so important.

To stay ahead of the curve, the Republic has to step up its productivity so as to reduce reliance on manpower, with a stronger Singaporean core and better quality of foreign manpower.
The more we have today, the more we stand to lose tomorrow if we are not good enough and fast enough.”

This guy has a obsession and unnatural fetishism with the words fast and good and cheap, and their superlatives, faster, better, betterest, cheaper.

His entire ministry portfolio is based on those words.

Sure there are automation jobs in factories which by their nature affords greater profitability, unless competition drives down the prices. But at the same time there will always be a need for jobs that cannot be automated, and someone to do those jobs, like making bread. The bread you buy has to made one at a time, and someone has to do it, or there will be no bread.

Council chairman, Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean, said members will focus on improving productivity at all levels, from the individual worker to various enterprises and sectors. -- ST PHOTO: ALPHONSUS CHERN

THE drive to boost productivity ramped up another notch, when private and public sector union members met for the first National Productivity and Continuing Education Council (NPCEC) meeting on Friday.

Council chairman, Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean, said members will focus on improving productivity at all levels, from the individual worker to various enterprises and sectors.

Besides ensuring workers are properly trained and skilled to keep up with market needs, enterprises and sectors have to innovate to be more competitive.

' This will raise the overall productivity of Singapore's economy to sustain future economic growth,' DPM Teo said.

For a start, the Council will focus on forming work groups to study strategies to raise productivity in 12 sectors, from construction to manufacturing and professional and business services. It will also develop benchmarks for productivity.

President of the Singapore National Employers' Federation (SNEF), Mr Stephen Lee, pledged to support the Council : 'Workers and businesses have to work together so the fruits of business and economic growth can be shared by all.'

NTUC Secretary-General Lim Swee Say said: "The Labour Movement will reach out to companies and workers to identify and break productivity bottlenecks, and upgrade the skills and capabilities of our workforce through continuing education."

SO WHEN CAN WE SEE OUR TAX MONEY PUT TO EFFECTIVE USE?
SO WHEN CAN THE PART-TIME MPs IDENTIFY AND BREAK PRODUCTIVITY BOTTLENECKS???

what happened to our PM talk of increasing productivity by 70%(JUST BEFORE 2010'S LNY)?

when we going to see reduction in number of part-time mps?

one part-time mp can be doing so many other jobs and/or appointment

so who or which organisation is he/she paying more attention(or any if there is) to?

make them commit full-time since they so "PRODUCTIVE"

since they claim to be leader and they keep highlighting "productivity"
they shall lead by showing productivity

reduce the number to 50 or less

return the jobs to the taxpayers

if not able to keep up, stop claiming part-time mp allowance, take the burden off the taxpayers and budget

Re: Lim Swee Say’s warning: Singaporeans will lose more if they are not good and fast

they had repeatedly proven themselves guilty of fundamental breach of what they claimed and promised...

to claim $$$$$$$$$$$$ for being MPee if not they can go in to private sector or own businesses...

then they breached everything when they become MPee and still work in private sectors, gov-linked companies, own businesses n etc...

now tell and confess to the public, taxpayers, shareholders of public n private entities from which they collecting $$$ and directorships from...

WHO DO THEY NEGLECT?

THE TAXPAYERS?
THE SHAREHOLDERS OF PUBLIC AND/OR PRIVATE ENTITIES
OR ???
having more than one appointment does not give any human being more than the allocated 24hrs per calendar day...

u can fool some ppl at all times
u can fool all ppl at sometimes
but u can nvr fool all ppl at all times

The problem why sinkapore can't compete is the PAP government.

The problem with low productivity was identified 3 decades ago. What has the PAP done? Nothing much. Its solution is to import millions of foreigners. Has that solution work? Nope. Instead it has destroyed the social fabric of this country and damaged our infrastructure and ruin the economic livelihood of sinkees.

Vote the PAP out.

These pappies always like to fearmonger and declare these 'existential threats' to Sinkieland, so the gullible Sinkies can cower behind the ever wise and farsighted PAP for protection.

the PAP had done and said alot in 3 decades.
PAP had kept repeating the phase 'singapore needs to improve on productivity' when they ran out of ideas.
PAP said lack of productivity as an excuse to keep workers wages low [except for the top layer and themselves].
