China Stocks Sink

China’s stocks tumbled, with the benchmark index falling the most since June 2007, amid concern a three-week rally sparked by unprecedented government intervention is unsustainable.
The Shanghai Composite Index plunged 8.5 percent to 3,725.56 at the close, as 75 stocks dropped for each that rose. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index sank 4.2 percent at 3:03 p.m. in Hong Kong, extending the world’s worst decline in the past month.
Monday’s retreat shattered a sense of calm that had fallen over mainland markets last week, raising questions over whether government efforts to prop up prices are viable amid weak economic growth. China’s industrial profits fell 0.3 percent in June from a year earlier, the statistics bureau reported on Monday. The International Monetary Fund has urged China to eventually unwind its support measures, according to a person familiar with the matter.
“Today’s rout in China poured cold water on investor sentiment,” said Mari Oshidari, a Hong Kong-based strategist at Okasan Securities Group Inc. “This also revealed the market is still too fragile without government support.”
The Shanghai gauge rebounded 16 percent from its July 8 low through Friday as officials went to extreme lengths to halt a rout that wiped $4 trillion off the nation’s equities. Officials allowed more than 1,400 companies to halt trading, banned major shareholders from selling stakes, restricted short selling and suspended initial public offerings.
The Hang Seng Index fell 3.1 percent.

All you need to know about the Chinese stock market.

informative but this is nothing new, there is more to it, let me tell you, 90% and above china stock prices are manipulated. if i am the chinese gahment, i will arrest them but they impose restriction on short sellers instead. this have not stopped the market makers from price fixing the stocks. i suspect there are syndicates joining hands in the manipulation. fyi, this is common and it happened in every stock exchange in the world.

“Where you want to be is always in control, never wishing, always trading, and always, first and foremost protecting your butt.”

Some small tricks I have learned ...........

1) Trend - long, intermediate and short in the context of your own time horizon

2) Momentum often leads price

3) Price alternation principle - (a) price swings up and down within small range then breaks out in (b) range expansion mode until (c) range contracts again - (d) range will later expand again either in the same direction as in (b) or the opposite

4) In 3 (a) trend indicators do not work - use oscillators instead or simple resistance and support

5) If people uses pivots, their acting on them makes those points or areas natural resistance and support

6) At the most animal level, price is determined by bids and asks - buying or selling pressure - watch the tape and develop a feel for reading it - to ascertain the pressure is from which side at the final moment - for confirmation - just before you press the button

7) Don't be afraid to change your mind - based on the preponderance of evidence - but don't panic either - always have a pre-determined level before you enter that that level proves that you were wrong - weigh that potential loss against the potential gain - don't have to wait till that pre-determined loss level is reached before you exit - if you do (6) correctly, even if wrong can even get out at small profit

8) There is no philosophical or professional difference between short and long except your own personality may be more suited to one side than the other. The best to train your personality to be totally unbiased with regards to this matter. Oops there is one difference - fear is stronger than greed - so prices fall faster than they rise. Impatient people like me tend to prefer the short side. Yesterday was a good day.

“Don’t be a hero. Don’t have an ego. Always question yourself and your ability. Don’t ever feel that you are very good. The second you do, you are dead.”

Got to go update my pivots with the after hours closing prices .......... Don't leave home without them :p

chinese gahment going to arrest a lot of short sellers soon.

they can't touch those who short Hantu index futures denominated
in "foreign" currency from anywhere in world via clicks of a mouse

solved problem of boredom waiting for trend to emerge
in range trading mode all morning last Friday
short whenever it touched pivot of 225 and tape weakened
covered when bund and hantu got first white
few times but each trade with small part of full allocation

clue that direction will be down is behaviour of SH composite
finally opportunity emerged in early afternoon
on fourth and with hindsight last attempt to break out of pivot
every large dark candle brings joy and fear
heart beating faster than normal but no feeling of euphoria
ring, ring, check caller id cannot don't take

covered all forty at 098 while talking to he who can't be ignored
don't know when will be allowed to hang up
however closure is not entirely fortuitous or due to dumb luck
conscious decision with first white on bund index
when done noted that looks like only first leg has been completed
went down further to 060 as I gloated about
having bought all forty contracts back at one click at "lowest" point
nobody's perfect and no man is an island
one hundred thousand ringgit not to bad a reward for imperfection
most importantly slept like baby afterwards
no feeling of elation at victory nor despondence for minor setback
it's no fun at all to be a well trained robot
