Invoking LKY's name may backfire on PAP - Eugene Tan

The massive unprecedented outpouring of grief for founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew will also not necessarily lead to voters casting ballots for the ruling party without thinking. With his death, Mr Lee has risen above partisan politics. He no longer belongs exclusively to the PAP — a party he co-founded in 1955 and led as secretary-general to 1992.

The late Mr Lee is now a national hero — he belongs to every Singaporean. As such, any blatant attempt to exclusively claim Mr Lee for the PAP’s sole benefit will probably provoke a backlash at the ballot boxes, if not earlier. However, an “LKY dividend” may only be in his Tanjong Pagar ward, which he represented between April 1955 and March this year.

I hope the opposition follow Minister Ng's request for less personal attacks during this coming GE. The opposition in the past had often made baseless attacks on PAP cadres' integrity and found themselves facing defamation lawsuits after the elections. I hope they will stick to talking about national or municipal issues instead.

He was ruthless & self-serving. He jailed people he saw as a threat & his family got very, very,... wealthy.
He created many of the problems faced by Sporeans e.g. stop at two, womens charter, NS,...

But the inept son blew the recent Amos Yee episode worldwide with over 1 million youtube hits even it invoke UN to remark on the unfairness of the treatment and seek protection for a 16 years old kid.

Even from HK, one uncle James Hon also said the LKY is a horrible person.
Taipeh with their street protest also stands for the rights of Amos Yee.

His PMO handled this teenager rant poorly and they lose big time with images of the boy been handcuffed and shackled in orange garb.

They gave the impression that the State is a bully and the punishment too harsh.

Both PM and Amos has dented the legacy of our Founder Father.

Fair and square. Since singapore belongs to everybody, LKY also belongs to everybody now, not just the PAP.
