ST Engineering CEO suffers stroke after watching his shit products at NDP rehearsal

Re: ST Engineering CEO suffers stroke after watching his shit products at NDP rehears

In the old days under SAE, Chartered, etc the military role for the precursor to ST Eng was to upgrade and modify the used equipment bought from overseas. Hence, you have AMX-13s being upgraded and modified. Some other companies would make licensed production of Merc and Fiat 3 tonners. M-16 and GPMG were all also licenced manufactured. All the equipment they were tasked with making or upgrading was within their technical means. Occasionally, they are called upon to make and develop specialized stuff like APFSDS rounds for the 75mm AMX tank gun, This is a legitimate role as no other manufacturers make this type of ammo. Occasionally also, they will foray into small arms manufacturing like SAR-80 (a total failure) and Utimax SAW ( a mixed success).

Then for some reason, they decided that the M113 Ultra and any of the many tracked APCs and ICVs on the market were not good enough for the SAF and choose to develop the Bionix. I know one of the goals was to export it. But really, with an American engine and many american parts, there were only limited places that it could be sold in. And who would buy such an important piece of equipment from a country and a company with no track record in battle or at war? The R & D and production line set up does not warrant the orders of about 400 for the Bionix and even less (135) for the Terrex. The R & D was so screwed up that one of the original goals of the Bionix project (a main tank variant) was totally not doable. They tried to put a tank turret with a low pressure 120mm tank gun but that did not work. Even a 105mm tank gun turret could not work. They even hired an American company to help but it was decided that it was a no go, so in the end had to order the Leo2 from Germany.

This kind of fucking org has been given a blank cheque by the PAP to do any fuck project they want without justification to the cost or potential losses or feasibility. Karma comes back to haunt this CEO. Maybe his guilty conscious gave him a stroke.

That is immoral of the relevant individuals and entities.
Yet, the unreasonable authorities have the moral compass to question "do you wish to have three meals at the food court or hawker centre", and continue to ignore the financially, medically, and physically challenged.

By the way, what is "a low pressure 120mm tank gun."

sometimes also known as "low velocity gun" (lvg) which is primarily used on ifv and not mbt. a high pressure or high velocity 120mm would be like a rheinmetall l/55 120mm - preferred mbt tank gun to counter a t-80's partial ceramic armor.

FRankly speaking, I don't like anyone from ST Engineering, especially the CEO. THis is the worse organization when it comes to sucking taxpayer money and wasting it. This company sucks up $ billions of our money for their R & D and money losing products and ventures. This fucking CEO that got the stroke is paid a base salary of USD$3.5 million per year and that does not include any bonus or stock options he might have. This company would have been bankrupt decades ago if not a GLC. Its products are all shit and very little exported (other then the Bronco). Since the SAF has to purchase from them, you can be sure the SAF is paying 25% more then any other country for basics like ammunition and what not.

The Bionix is a POS that can't be sold elsewhere, and same goes for the Terrex. The few exceptions in winning orders has turned out to obtained due to corruption like the Pegasus Howitzer sale to India. Frankly, the singapore taxpayer would have been saved billion of $ if it procured equipment at the market, or entered license manufacture for the equipment. For example, why spend $ millions developing the bullpup assault rifle SAR-21 when an established bullpup the Asutrian STeyr was already under license manufacture in Malaysia, Australia, as well as from the parent company. There is no reason why we cannot license manufacture the Steyr if they wanted a bullpup. Nothing ST Eng makes is specialized for Singapore, and its not anything we couild not have gotten cheaper elsewhere.

This fucking CEO and for that reason most, if not all, of the management there would have seen (if they are honest with themselves) that their products are inferior in many cases and more expensive in most cases than what is available elsewhere. Yet they continue to collect their nice paychecks and keep quiet. I have never once heard of a MINDEF or AGO or ST Eng personnel question the need for this or that weapon system. Its a parking ground for retired SAF Col and Generals and really a chiak liao bee org.

Bro

Well written................ I agree 101 % of what you said
MINDEF pays ST Engrg $250 for a pair of nut & bolt which can be bought for $0.25
Datz how the fat cats became fatty lions...........

& meanwhile Dr Richard Kwok ( who go his PhD via distant learning...) the manager in charge of passive armouring of the Bionix got one promotion after another till EVP & CTO of ST........... he was solely responsible for Design & Development but the poor performance cited above did not affect his career - how so? What fucking meritocracy is that???????????

That is immoral of the relevant individuals and entities.
Yet, the unreasonable authorities have the moral compass to question "do you wish to have three meals at the food court or hawker centre", and continue to ignore the financially, medically, and physically challenged.

By the way, what is "a low pressure 120mm tank gun."

pressure refers to the internal pressure on the firing chamber of the main gun calculated in PSI. The internal pressure is itself influenced by the amount and type of propellant in the main round. A round with a normal amount of propellant or more would give you a high muzzle velocity when it exits the barrel. There is no "high" pressure gun per se, as all main tank guns are pressumed to be able to handle high muzzle velocities. A low pressure gun refers to a gun that can only handle a certain type of ammo. The type that has a lesser amount of propellant. A low pressure gun cannot handle a normal ammo as its buffers, recuperators, and even firing chamber are not designed for the recoil and the pressure.

But what I should have mentioned in not low pressure. And even the term low velocity is not the word I am looking for. Rather, it should be low recoil. There are certain tank main gun designs with low recoil features that use a regular main tank round. For example, the Belgium Cockerill 105mm tank gun uses a sophisticated system of muzzle brake, and longer recoil travel. This gun for example can fire all the range of 105mm ammo that say the Centurion can fire. A low recoil gun depends on its design to reduce the recoil and therefore can be mounted on a lighter vehicle like the Bionix without compromising the type of ammo it uses. The low velocity/low pressure guns rely on a reduced propellant charge to achieve lower recoil. Hence not the term I wanted to refer too. Its possible that if ST Eng had gone with a 105mm gun, they might have been able to fit a turret on the bionix.

Anyone ever question any top execs at ST Eng including this stroke victim fucker as to why they needed a tracked AFV like the Bionix? Why, singapore got very rough terrain, must need a tracked vehicle ah? Kanena, every sq m of this island is paved with highways, roads or some other shit. A wheeled AFV or APC is cheaper to develop, cheaper to manufacture, and much cheaper to maintain. SOmething like the Terrex can easily drive across singapore and reach any point of attack. The first question ST Engineering should have asked the SAF is "You need a tracked AFV for fuck?"

What a waste of taxpayers' money, when MINDEF could, and should, buy proven products from established countries.

Where than to park the retired jiak leow bee army officers? And this problem is only going to get worse. Soon will have to create another ST Kinetics-type. And one day we may see a ST CEO, 1st deputy CEO, 2nd deputy CEO..and so on.

Don't worry about that, They will create more chiak liao bee orgs like DSTA to park their fuck useless ex SAF Colonels and Generals. I think SMRT still got space to accomodate them.

the americano and NATo preferred vehicle is tracked. they felt that they lost a big tix item becos of it. but fark lah... puny sinkieland no matter how hard they try, everything is untested so unlikely will get from them, plus they grease all the wrong palms and right ones will have no biz to be seen with them.

NO way that NATO and the US will buy anything from S'pore because they have their own weapons industries and jobs to support. The sole exception being the BRONCO due to the rush order that the British Army needed to make and we were the only ones that could supply on such short notice. When you are an unproven weapons maker, damn hard to sell to anyone except pariah countries. But due to high American content, even those armies under weapons embargo cannot be sold to. Anyone else that does not want to buy from the US or western countries might look at our stuff but the Chinese will invariably undercut the price with their cheap vehicles. So, no sale there either.

Re: ST Engineering CEO suffers stroke after watching his shit products at NDP rehears

you did not read your news well. ST managed a puny deal of 150mil GBP to supply broncos for the Brits

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bronco_All_Terrain_Tracked_Carrier

the purchase was to cover shortfall in armor which the homeland would have charged an arms and 2 limbs and much longer turnover time.

meanwhile of cos, the new robotic trucks have made their ways

so the future would be robotic heavy duty vehicle with multiple targetting capabilities, multi projectiles assault, mingle with manned tanks just like the chappie movie.

Never make fun of people when it comes to medical issues as it could well happen to any of us.

I've known people with zero risk factors suffer massive strokes that left them with a very poor quality of life.

You are too kind, that's outlaw in SG

NOT so....... Bionix was done becos Fong Siak Hay wants to move up the ST hierachy pulling along his managers to wealth n fortune
Fuck if sg has no rough terrain...... datz not the design consideration
Throw some red herrings like USA is a huge market! MY foot! USA need sg duds?

I think you have summed up the hidden relationship between the SAF and ST Eng. The SAF does not tell ST what it wants. ST tells SAF what it needs and what to buy. Its a pretty fucked up relationship. If SAF was following its own tendering policy, it should have invited a few other companies to bid on its IFV procurement. But to my knowledge, there was only one candidate, the Bionix. That is why SAF has no military strategy in place. It just buys what it is told to buy. Many of the purchases make no sense at all. It justifies it by spouting nonsensical reasoning. For example, the F-15SG is to replace the A-4 Skyhawk. What a joke. The Skyhawk was basic cheap ground attack and close support aircraft worth less then $5 million each. The F-15SG is a strategic long distance strike aircraft and air supremacy fighter worth $100 million each. Its like justifying the purchase of a Bentley Continental to replace an old Toyota Corolla.

to stay within american pedigree, it's more like justifying the purchase of a corvette to replace an old ford escort.
