MAURICIO POCHETTINO could wreck Jose Mourinho’s dream of becoming Manchester United’s next manager.

SunSport understands United chiefs have spoken to representatives of the Tottenham boss about succeeding Louis van Gaal. Similar conversations are on-going between
Old Trafford chiefs and Mourinho, who is desperate for the job.

Those talks were first revealed by SunSport in December. But United also see Pochettino as a man who can lead them long-term and deliver trophies as well as good football.

The Argentine, 43,
is also admired for how he has nurtured young players like Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Eric Dier. The United board want to sustain Alex Ferguson’s legacy of giving young players a chance to thrive.

Pochettino is also seen as a less confrontational and calmer personality than the Portuguese former Chelsea boss.

United are set to ditch Van Gaal at the end of the season and the Glazers have told executive vice chairman Ed Woodard to secure a top replacement.

Poch is under contract until 2019 and Spurs want to offer him a new improved deal.

And Woodward knows persuading them to release him will be difficult and expensive.
White Hart Lane chief Daniel Levy is a notoriously hard chairman to deal with.

He would demand huge compensation — as much as £20million — and try and make it impossible for his man to go.

That would put Mourinho in the box-seat, but so far there is no definitive agreement between United and the Special One.

Re: I only worked with 4 world class players - Sir Alex Ferguson

If you believe tabloids:biggrin:

Manchester United and Jose Mourinho agree in principle on £15m a year deal to be next manager

Manchester United and Jose Mourinho agree in principle on £15m a year deal to be next manager

The three-season package is on a par with what Man City will pay Pep Guardiola PLUS: The Special One eyes a sporting director and summer transfer targets

Jose Mourinho is set to land a three-year, £15million-a-season deal to replace Louis van Gaal at Manchester United.
The package awaiting former Chelsea boss Mourinho at Old Trafford will put him on a par with old foe Pep Guardiola, who will join rivals Manchester City this summer.

Personal terms are understood to have been agreed in principle with Mourinho, who is also keen to bring in highly-rated Atletico Madrid sporting director Andrea Berta. Italian Berta is understood to be a close friend of Mourinho’s agent, Jorge Mendes.

His arrival at Old Trafford would see the job of signing players moved from executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward to him.
Read more: Mourinho telling friends he believes he WILL be next United boss

United have so far claimed they will not be looking to appoint a director of football, but Mourinho is keen to have the freedom to overhaul the squad and has already spelled out his potential summer targets to the club.

It would relieve Woodward of responsibility for securing the signatures of transfer targets, freeing him up to concentrate on the commercial side of United's operations.

Manchester United executive vice chairman Ed Woodward faces a grilling fromManchester United investors as the club prepares to announce its earnings for the first quarter of 2016.

Woodward was forced to deny United's failure to reach the top four would damage the club financially in David Moyes' first season - and may have to broach the subject once again on Thursday.

He will hold a conference call with investors after the figures are announced, withLouis van Gaal's side currently six points adrift of the Champions League places. Finishing in the top four will become of increased importance next season with each club finishing in those positions earning over £140million.

The announcement of the figures follows news earlier this week that the club's share prices had dropped dramtically.
Shares in Manchester United PLC started at $14.50 when the New York Stock Exchange opened at 9.30am, but within a matter of hours had fallen to $13.92.

That meant around $82MILLION was wiped off the club's overall value during the day as shares dropped over two per cent.
During the day, however, the shares rallied and were back at $14.27 by 4pm New York time.
Over the last three months, United's market value has suffered a spectacular decline - and as the club struggles to secure Champions League football, it shows no sign of abating.

After hitting $18.99 on November 12 2015, almost 20 per cent of the value has been wiped out in the months since.
That's helped drag United's value below $2.3billion and has seen almost $830million wiped off the club's value since the peak on November 12.

Shares have proven somewhat volatile over the last five years, dropping to a low of $12.25 in October 2012, but peaking at $19.35 on July 25, 2014 - during the early days of Van Gaal's reign.

Re: I only worked with 4 world class players - Sir Alex Ferguson

REVEALED: The truth behind Mourinho and Manchester United's 'done deal'
Jose Mourinho seems set to become the next Man Utd manager but there is a catch to his 'done deal' to replace Louis van Gaal

Jose Mourinho believes his move to Manchester United is only a 'done deal' if the club fails to qualify for the Champions League.

One of Mourinho's London friends claimed the Portuguese had agreed a deal to manage United, however M.E.N. Sport understands the former Chelsea manager is only convinced of getting his dream job if
Louis van Gaal fails to clinch a top four spot.

United sacked David Moyes 36 hours after their 2-0 defeat at Everton ensured it was mathematically impossible for them to qualify for the Champions League in 2014 and M.E.N. Sport reported last week concerns over United's Premier League slide prompted
the club to hold talks with Mourinho's representatives.

Mourinho is believed to be insistent he has neither agreed nor signed a contract with United, while he has no desire to instigate any further controversy. This tallies with respected Spanish broadsheet El Confidencial's report that Mourinho's agent, Jorge Mendes, is merely working on a deal with United - which is far from complete.
Although he is eager to succeed Van Gaal, Mourinho is understood to be embarrassed by the treatment his friend has received, as the United manager continues to field questions about his future and the possibility of Mourinho replacing him.

Van Gaal mentored Mourinho at Barcelona and the duo have maintained a close relationship over the last 16 years.
"He's very special but he is very special for me because we've continued our relationship," Van Gaal said last season. "Which in the football world is not always normal. That's nice."

While Mourinho is content with retaining his vow of silence, the timing of the 'done deal' reports has worked to his advantage, since they have overshadowed
Sir Alex Ferguson's championing of Mauricio Pochettino as the Premier League's 'best manager'.

Ferguson overlooked Mourinho as his replacement in 2013 and is understood to still oppose the prospect of the two-time Champions League winner managing United, even though the decision rests with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward.
Pochettino has adapted to English football impressively since he arrived at Southampton three years ago and took his Tottenham side up to second in the Premier League table at the weekend.

Last season 4th place credits must be given to Angel Di Maria.

Man Utd will not be in the Quadro this season and also will not win the UEFA Cup.

The only hope for a trophy is the FA Cup

Aftermath from sat's debacle :p

Jose Mourinho could take over Manchester United this month as board lose faith in Louis van Gaal

MANCHESTER UNITED could appoint Jose Mourinho before the end of the month.
Saturday’s
2-1 capitulation at Sunderland alarmed the club’s board.
But just as concerning was Louis van Gaal giving up on a top-four spot.

United had been ready to stick with the Dutchman, 64, until the summer.

Now they believe they will lose nothing by swooping for the ex-Chelsea boss before their next league game at home to Arsenal on February 28.
Before that they play two legs in the Europa League against Danish minnows Midtjylland with the FA Cup trip to Shrewsbury sandwiched in between.

And, as we reveal today,
Van Gaal has taken only a short-term let on his new home, meaning he could leave at any time.

Despite having spent £250million under LVG, United have their worst-ever points total at this stage of a Prem season, with 41 from 26 games.
They have won just 11 of those and have scored the least goals of the top seven with 33.

United are convinced now that a move for Mourinho would be popular with supporters.
The club pay close attention to fans’ views in polls and on social media.
Mourinho is ready to move when United make their final call — which is now looking sooner rather than later.

LVG moving house? :p

Louis van Gaal only takes short-term lease on house over fears of Man United axe
Under fire Dutchman scared to commit long-term to new home as worries grow over United sacking

lvg-removal-man_2690281a.jpg

LOUIS VAN GAAL’S future at Manchester United looks more uncertain than ever. The under-pressure Old Trafford boss has just signed up for a new home — with a letting contract that allows him to leave at the drop of a hat.

LVG and his wife Truus have spent the last 18 months in a four-bedroom flat near the upmarket village of Hale, Greater Manchester.
But the owner of the property wants to move back in and she has served him notice to quit by the end of this month.
So Van Gaal, 64, has now struck a deal to rent a magnificent £1.4million apartment in nearby Bowdon.

But he refused to commit to a six-month let. So instead of paying the advertised rent of £3,000 a month, the Dutch coach has agreed to pay over the odds for a month-by-month rolling contract. The Sun understands he will pay around £4,500 a month for the option to give a month’s notice if he decides to throw in the towel at the Theatre of Dreams.

Last night a United source said: “Fans will speculate that this means the end is nigh for Louis — and that might well be the case.
“But it could also mean that he wants to actually buy somewhere here and wants to be able to move in as quickly as possible.”

LVG’s new home was marketed as “the best penthouse in South Manchester and Cheshire” and boasts a hot tub on the roof terrace.

The property is spread over 6,000sq feet, with bedrooms opening on to balconies. There is also a self-contained gym on the third floor.

Yesterday a property expert said: “It’s unusual for estate agents and owners to allow rolling monthly contracts, they normally like you signed up for six or 12 months.

“But I guess the goalposts change when the manager of Manchester United comes knocking on your door.”

Van Gaal is under huge pressure as United are out of the Champions League and only fifth in the Premier League table.
Failure to qualify for the Champions League would be a financial disaster. And his predecessor in the Old Trafford hotseat David Moyes has told Van Gaal Manchester United HAVE to be in the Champions League.

LVG has conceded it is already a long-shot to make the top four this term. If they fail to do that, they must win the Europa League to squeak in through the back door.

Moyes, who lasted just ten months after succeeding Alex Ferguson, said: “I knew Manchester United had to qualify for the Champions League.
“They are a club of status that wants to be at that level.
“They want to be winning it, never mind qualifying for it. That’s what happens at Manchester United.”

Moyes was fired in April 2014 as soon as United were put out of the Champions League by Bayern Munich.
He said: “The reason I lost my job was I didn’t win enough games. But I feel unfairly treated in that you don’t get the time to do the job.”

Man United preparing £60million move for Borussia Dortmund hotshot Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has identified the African goalgetter as the club’s No1 transfer target this summer

Manchester United are ready to break the bank to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - and make him one of the biggest stars in the world.

VfB-Stuttgart-v-Borussia-Dortmund-DFB-Cup

Big-money move? Manchester United are preparing a massive bid for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has identified the red-hot
Borussia Dortmund striker as the club’s No1 transfer target this summer.

And despite their struggles to qualify for next season’s Champions League, United are confident they can lure Aubameyang to Old Trafford. United are ready to pay in excess of £60m, give him a £200,000-a-week contract and the promise of making him a global superstar.

They have already sounded out Aubameyang’s representatives and are hopeful of stealing a march on any rivals for his transfer.

United still believe that a move to Old Trafford is appealing to the biggest stars in world football even if they have to pay huge prices to get them. Arsenal have been on his case but have been scared off by Dortmund’s demands - but that will not deter United.

They have got serious cash to spend and want to rebuild their squad even though doubts over the manager remain a huge issue.

Louis van Gaal knows he will go unless he finishes in the top four and gets back into the Champions League next season.
Jose Mourinho is the overwhelming favourite to succeed Van Gaal but that will not affect United’s plans in the transfer market.

There is major concern within the club about United’s ailing form and Sir Alex Ferguson remains a big influence behind the scenes.

Ferguson - who has a close friendship with former Chelsea boss Mourinho - asked to come back on the team bus after United’s draw at Chelsea ten days ago.

Former United boss Ferguson treads a careful path through the politics at Old Trafford but his presence is still very noticeable with the players and may also ultimately have a say in the decision over the next manager.

Spring cleaning?

Manchester United to restructure after blowing £320m in three seasons on flops

Old Trafford chiefs look to Europe — and City — for inspiration

MANCHESTER UNITED plan to overhaul their player recruitment structure after a disastrous £320million splurge since 2013.
Red Devils bigwig Ed Woodward has looked at the models of top European clubs, including neighbours
Manchester City.
City use the Barcelona influence of Txiki Begiristain and Ferran Soriano to help the manager identify and buy new players.

Now United’s owners, the Glazer family, are looking at a similar set-up having previously given their managers free rein to identify their targets.

As well as concern at Old Trafford over some of the players bought over the last three years, there have been raised eyebrows at a failure to push some deals through. United have tried to get the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Gareth Bale and Neymar.
The club are ready to change that, with both the manager and one or two new executives working in tandem.

Few of United’s big-name signings have improved the team and the most expensive of all, Angel Di Maria, at £59.7million, was the biggest flop of the lot.
The club ended up taking a £15m sting on the Argentine.

Of the 13 main players bought under David Moyes and Louis van Gaal, only Anthony Martial and Juan Mata can be regarded as a success. Current boss Van Gaal has spent £250m on 11 players and the club are worse off at this stage of the season than they were during Moyes’ ill-fated reign. There was also the expensive loan deal for Radamel Falcao, who also failed under Van Gaal.

This has all led to accusations of a scatter-gun approach in spending to get back to the top in the Premier and in Europe.
United are also facing an unexpected bill after Derby requested payment for up to 300 seats which were wrecked in their FA Cup tie last month. A Rams spokesman said: “There was damage to seats in the away section and we are liaising with United.”

United fans are planning a protest at FC Midtjylland tomorrow after being charged £71 to attend the Europa League game. Andy Mitten, author and editor of fanzine United We Stand, said: “It’s a rip-off.”
