I think he sums up the Singapore system very accurately. There are no fabrications.

The PAP gains the lion's share of the votes at every election because the majority of Singaporeans from all walks of life feel that their lives will be better off if they vote for the party vs the other options available.

If a day arrives where the majority feel that the PAP is no longer the best product on offer, then it will be the beginning of the end for LHL and his team.

The paps were able to win in every election since independence due to being at the right place and at the right time, a free for all country where crime, lawlessness, unemployment and slum ruled the day.

No other credible political parties were able to inspire the masses except the paps with the help of the Chinese chauvinists and pro-communists. Eventually, LKY had to get rid of them or they would get rid of him.

As the paps changed the landscape of the country, the people could see the good work done by the paps. Things started to crumble after the paps started to bring in foreigners and opposition parties became more vocal to tell the people the wrong policies adopted by the paps.

The paps are now facing stiff challenges. There are now more professional people willing to join oppo parties unlike in the past.

The sinkies might have been the sheep but the paps during that era were certainly the shepherd, not a government of wolves. How else could you explain the progress made in the island from a swamp land to a glistening metropolis?

Take a look around you. How could it be possible to see the beautiful skyline at dusk if LKY and the paps had been a pack of wolves?

If they were wolves, it was due to survival instinct because they had to overcome obstacles to keep the country afloat.
