Tokyo, July 2 (CNA) Japanese-Korean actor Daisuke Ryu (隆大介), who was arrested in Taiwan in March for attacking an immigration official at the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, will be fired by his Japanese company now that he has returned to Japan.

"We have spoken to Daisuke Ryu and will terminate our contract with him after he returns to Japan," Japanese film and TV company, Toei Company, said in a statement sent to reporters on Wednesday shortly before Ryu was due to return.

The 58-year-old actor came to Taiwan March 21 to film Martin Scorsese's new historical drama "Silence," but was arrested at the airport after he attacked and injured an immigration officer who asked him to fill out his embarkation card.

Ryu was prohibited from leaving Taiwan until a ruling was made in the case. His contract with the "Silence" film crew was also immediately terminated following the incident.

On May 19, Ryu reconciled with the victim and on June 15 he was fined by a court for obstructing an officer in discharge of his duties. Ryu also issued a statement apologizing for his behavior at the airport and saying that he will reflect deeply on the incident.

He said he is grateful that the injured officer accepted his apology.

Ryu is best-known for his role in Japanese director Akira Kurosawa's movie "Kagemusha."
