TAIPEI: A Singaporean was one of over 500 injured during a fire which broke out at the Formosa Fun Coast Water Park in New Taipei City on Saturday (Jun 27), the Singapore Trade Office in Taipei said.

She has been identified as Megan Loy. According to a casualty list issued by the New Taipei City government, Ms Loy sustained serious injuries and is currently in Shuang Ho hospital in New Taipei City.

The Singapore Trade Office said it is in touch with the family. Singaporeans in Taiwan who require consular assistance are advised to contact the Singapore Trade Office in Taipei at +886-9-5353-2638 or [email protected].

The incident occurred when a ball of fire ripped through a crowd at the park after coloured powder being sprayed on partygoers ignited. More than 500 people were injured, with 194 people sustaining severe injuries.

I wonder whether they got a permit to organist this event. The safety officer should know that any powdery substance, even cotton dust in large quantities will cause a flash explosion when ignited by even a small spark.

Well they did get the necessary permit in organising the event and venue. The initial findings as reported by the local media is that the powder landed onto the lights near the stage and these lights heated up the powder which resulted the ignition of the fire.

And in the atmosphere were also filled with powder that was somehow get lit too, the scene captured by a onlooker mobile phone has shown the party goer near the stage were running away in the infernos. And all these people were in their shorts and bikinis too, therefore most of them suffer 80-90% burns.

The powdery stuff should not be permitted as it is common fire safety knowledge that there will be a flash explosion of intense heat once ignited. All safety officers & fire brigade staff know this. Those who grant permits for such public event must include fire safety as one of the requirements.

Well the problem is that I find these people does not have the sense of safety. The way they drive already tell how ignorance and dangerous they are. Almost everyday there are numerous death accidents on the road. Especially in Kaohsiung. And same goes to China too.

The trend for the youngsters is that they are getting too "hiao" and always like party, loud music, wear bikini and shake their ass/hips.
Party and events are always extremely crowded with not much room for exit during emergency.
Once there's a fire or explosive, people will start falling like domino and stepping onto each other when they run for their life.
Most people are injured and some even lost their life for being stepped over.
Simply no sense of danger for their surroundings.
