Amos Yee

Yesterday (23 Jun), the court decided to order 16-year-old Amos Yee to be remanded a further 2 weeks for psychiatric assessment.

Meanwhile, the United Nations Human Rights Office (OHCHR) has called for Amos’ immediate release and international human rights group, Human Rights Watch (HRW), has asked the Singapore government to exonerate him (‘Amos Yee to be remanded for 2 more weeks in IMH‘).

Again, the hearing of Amos Yee’s case yesterday (23 Jun) has made world news:

UN Urges Singapore To Release 16-Year-Old Blogger Amos Yee
16-year-old Singaporean blogger Amos Yee is facing up to three years in prison for uploading remarks and images critical of the late Lee Kuan Yew, the founding Prime Minister of Singapore. Now, the UN Human Rights Office calls for the immediate release of Amos Yee in line with its commitment under the UN Convention on the Rights of Child.

The Economist
Feisty bloggers face trouble
It comes as no surprise then that, in the most recent World Press Freedom Index, Singapore ranked 153rd of 180 countries, falling three spots from last year’s rankings. Any hope that Singapore’s ruling People’s Action Party would loosen controls over the media—as part of efforts to present a softer public face after its relatively poor showing in the last election—now seem misplaced. Singapore’s government has proven itself as willing as ever to use the colonial-era Sedition Act as well as the 2014 Protection from Harassment Act to stifle dissent. As Cherian George, a former columnist for Singapore’s Straits Times who now teaches journalism in Hong Kong, puts it: the government “still acts as though it can’t win an argument on the merits, nor trust the public to reach wise conclusions through open debate”.

Are the authorities in Singapore so high and mighty that they are unable to just drop the whole issue, admit they overreacted to the boy's "mischief" and get on? This issue is truly overblown for something that can be simply ignored!

Cheers!

Anyone has the YouTube video of the parliament session in which a furious LHL kept glaring, shouting and pointing his finger vehemently at (machiam almost want to physically whack) a defiant, guai-lan, grinning/smirking, come-whack-me-lah LTK? Shows both their true colors at their very best.

In fact the only thing and the only time people believe in him was when he let slipped that he needed to spend a lot of his precious time "fixing" the opposition. That much is true about him. The rest about him is all flashy pink!

Yes. I agree this episode is totally overblown :

-to the extent it may hurt further foreign investment into our country.
-- to the extent it may jeopardize our chance for our Botanical Garden to be put on the World Heritage list...

THANKS TO PM LHL AND HIS MEN IN PMO..

I think he is surrounded by people who lack grey matters.
