Mohamed Dawood R M Abdul Sukkur, 47, was accused of driving a black BMW car at a speed of 142km/h within a confined security checkpoint area with a speed limit of 15km/h. He was found to have not given due care and consideration to traffic conditions and presence of human traffic in the area......During the checks, officers found some discrepancies in the quantities of food declared. But instead of stopping at the inspection bay for further checks, he drove off.....

The police found the car along Pioneer Road North slightly after 2pm and Dawood was subsequently arrested.- CNA/cy

BMW “curry puff” man charged for rash act

JUNE 27, 2015 BY ARIFFIN SHA IN NEWS

Mr Mohamed Dawood Abdul Sukkur, 47, was arrested on Tuesday (23 June) for failing to stop as instructed at Tuas Checkpoint. Mr Dawood was directed by ICA officers to an area for further checks but he failed to stop and drove past Tuas Checkpoint in his 7-series BMW sedan.

His failure to stop ignited a manhunt and he was only arrested two hours later at 2pm near Pioneer North Road.

Upon his arrest, police officers found that Mr Dawood was in possession of more than 100 boxes of curry puffs and kueh.

It was reported that he cleared immigration and proceeded to the Customs Red Channel to declare the boxes of food he had brought in from Malaysia but when checks were conducted on his vehicle, there were some discrepancies in the quantities of food declared. He had a valid permit to import food from Malaysia, but had allegedly under-declared the quantity of food in his car.

Under the law, anyone wishing to bring in processed food must apply for a permit with the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) of Singapore.

Mr Dawood was charged in court yesterday (26 June) for committing a rash act to endanger the personal safety of others.

He allegedly drove at a speed of 142km/h within a confined security checkpoint area with a speed limit of 15km/h – more than 9 times the speed limit.

The charge carries a maximum punishment of six months’ jail and a $2,500 fine.

He was represented by Mr Noor Mohamed Marican.

The prosecution sought a three-week adjournment for further investigation as he could face more charges from other agencies. The case will be mentioned on July 14 at 9.30 am and Mr Dawood’s bail, which was set at $10,000, has been extended until then.
