The reality is, even without the 500, they wont dare vote opposition. Years ago, I chatted with a Div 3 officer about to pension. He told me must play safe. They will check who you voted for. Imagine a Div 3 chap going to pension having such fears. No hope.
But that was years back, and I am sure it is still valid today albeit to a lesser extent. Mostly, I am counting on anger and disappointment to triumph over fear.
