Just my guess - Singapore is a small Peesai which claims and wants to be seen a big boy, and tries to live up to that image, in this attempt, her efforts turn ugly. Everything is cramped into this little dot, which makes such pursuits ridiculous. An example - the acitivity of angling, there isn't much open space and avenues for this to be done healthily, and the buggers end up crowding and nudging each other in the crowded little piers and shoreline. Every park is crowded and congested on weekends and public holidays, even Pulau Ubin seems like a carnival ground! Yet Singapore prides herself on being clean, modern, efficient, and her peoples have to accept this notion and live within those beliefs, its like having a sour dish before you and as you eat it, you tell yourself it is sweet. Cities in other countries may be crowded and congested (eg. KL, Jakarta), but they have the country side to run to, in Singapore, there is none. So, despite her wealth, high education standards, modern infrastructure, it is a plastic motif the human soul has to put up with.
I do not have a solution to this situation, it is just my observation - and it is true, Singapore boasts one of the highest standards of education in the world, but many of her peoples do not return their trays after their meals at restaurants where trays are used.
Cheers!
genes? food? climate? inbreeding? why huh?
