You Won’t Believe Why These People Were Arrested on the New York City Subway
NEWS June 7, 2015 by Zachary Stieber | Epoch Times
Two people were arrested on the New York City subway earlier this year, but it’s the reason they were nabbed that has people shaking their heads.
Seats on the subway are often taken so officials have tried to instill proper etiquette in riders, putting up numerous signs in and around the train and stations.
One such sign warns riders not to take up more than one seat, saying “Dude…Stop the Spread, Please.”
It refers to riders, usually men, extending their legs so as to take up more space than if they were seated normally.
The term is known casually as “manspreading,” and has actually resulted in two arrests, reported Gothamist.
Two Latino men were taking up more than one seat each and “therefore inconveniencing other riders,” police wrote in the arrest report.

However, the judge was skeptical, saying that because the arrests were made at 12:11 a.m., “I can’t believe there were many people on the subway.”
She issued an ACD, which basically means the charges will be dropped if the guys don’t get arrested again in the near future.
