PAP Minister Amy Khor: Pursue new careers at 50 years old
admin / 13 hours ago

In an career fair held at the Singapore Expo today, the Senior Minister of State for Manpower and Health Dr Amy Khor has called for elderly Singaporeans to embark on a new career at 50 years old because “it is common to see seniors living past 80 years old”:

“it is common to see seniors living past 80 years old. She said that at 50 years old, it can be the start of a period of “second growth” where seniors learn and experience new things, and pursue new careers.”

The government-controlled mainstream media, Channel News Asia, even featured a senior participant of the “active ageing” career expo today. A certain “Pearl Tang” said she signed up for a Chinese painting class last month and “never looked back”.

Do you think Singaporean elderly working as cleaners and tissue paper peddlers should start their “second growth” as Minister Amy Khor suggested?

Dear Amy Khor
How STUPID can you be asking or telling people with 2 career after 50 yo you are just making us all AFFIRM that the PAP is truely a confuse party and can not care for Singaporean. And after a person even reaches 40 already get Kickout of a job and replace by FT or New Citizen = FT

Andrew Toh
Yes, let's force all those useless PAP ministers to pursue new careers at the next GE!

Well, I think Amy Khor should make the first move.... let's just make her and her gang a career switch

At the age of 50, I had probably contributed some 20 odd years to the growth and development of this county's economy. If I am to be truthful, I know I have another less than 15 years of active work. Making our senior citizens work when they're past the age of 70 is just plain cruel and sadistic.

If, like the aunty, I take up painting at the age of 50, I see it more as something I can fill my time with when I retire and not something I want to engage actively in as a career. If I can make some money out of it, cool but that won't be the main agenda.

This is of course, assuming we can retire, if not, screw painting skills, I would need a much more stable and feasible skill. Art is not easy to sell.

And Amy Khor's brain is probably made up of rusty nails.

It is really difficult to ever hoping to hear something sensible from the mouths of our ministers.

Recently, we had a disgraceful statement from a minister about crossing some red line - but did not define where/what is the red line.

Now we have some really dumb minister saying that we should look for second career at 50.

The context of Amy Khor 's speech at 50Plus Expo

50 years : The Start of a “Second Growth”

2. The 50plus EXPO this year is extra special, because as a nation, we are also celebrating our Golden Jubilee. We have come very far as a nation within the last 50 years. I am confident that the next 50 years will be no less exciting, as we embark on the next stage of our development as a more mature nation and a more established economy.

3. As it is for a country, so it is for individuals. In this day and age where it is increasingly becoming common to live past 80 years, 50 years is somewhat only a half way mark in our lives. At 50, there are still decades ahead of us. As individuals, 50 years old can be the start of a period of “second growth” too, where we learn new things, pursue new careers and experience new things. Indeed, when the Ministerial Committee of Ageing held a series of some 50 focus group discussions last year to hear ideas from Singaporeans on how to achieve successful ageing, we met with many enthusiastic post 50 year old active agers. They are full of life and suggestions. They proposed that we should provide more opportunities for older Singaporeans to learn, not just for employment, but for learning’s sake. They gave ideas on how we can bring programmes closer to the heartlands to help seniors keep healthy. Many of them also want to continue to contribute to our community through volunteerism.

So, it is not just about finding new careers at 50 plus, but going for new learnings and experiences so as to achieve successful aging.

Wow, this Amy Khor represents how out of touch is PAP as a whole. Her view probably represent that of entire cabinet!

She may well be right if she meant 2nd career as security guards, property agents, or just cardboard collector/resellers!

2nd career by choice or circumstances due to being replaced by foreign thrashes using degree from mills? Her message is probably telling to shitizens the latter and be prepared for it as Pigs further open flood gate to 10 million ah nehs, tiongs and pinoys!

Soon, another will suggest 3rd career at 70.

PAP MPs work very hard to keep Singapore prosperous and sinkies well-taken care of, lest some opposition duds steal their lunch. Many PAP MPs work to the extent of holding multiple portfolios and directorships. They should not work so hard lest it hurts their health.

Sinkies should learn from this old lady, who actively pursued her career until she dropped dead at work. I heard she was posthumously awarded 'Employee of the Month' that month.

One 80 year old Singaporean dishwasher Madam He Jinyu was found dead in the toilet of ABC hawker center in Redhill where she has been working for the last six years.

According to her supervisor, Madam He worked daily from morning till night and only had two days off a month.

“When I saw her yesterday, she was walking unsteadily and appeared pale. I heard she has been having diarrhoea for the past few days,” she said.
