A huge Chinese company, Tiens Group, is treating more than half of its 12,000 employees to a four-day holiday in France and has booked up 140 hotels in the capital Paris as part of the package, a French foreign ministry spokeswoman said on Thursday.

According to Le Parisien newspaper, the trip by the 6,400-strong group includes a mass visit to the Louvre museum, and they are expected to spend €13m euros (US$15m) in total.

The spokeswoman said the company chairman Li Jinyuan met foreign minister Laurent Fabius on Wednesday and “the group will be in Nice tomorrow and the day after”.

According to the Tiens website, Li founded the group in 1995 and has expanded it into an international conglomerate with businesses in biotechnology, health management, ecommerce, hotel and tourism, among others. The 57-year-old is listed on the Forbes 2011 list of the world’s billionaires.

France, which is struggling to revive its economy, is the most visited country in the world, according to the latest UN figures, and is seeing an increasing number of tourists from China. Almost 85m foreigners a year support a €150bn ($177 bn) industry that delivers 7% of the nation’s GDP, according to government figures.

In 2013, the vast majority of visitors to France were from other European countries, but about 3.1m came from the United States and 1.7m from China.

Now a huge multinational company, Tiens works in a number of sectors including tourism, e-commerce, health management and biotechnology. Jinyuan, who is on the Forbes Rich List and the 24th richest person in China, founded the company in 1995.

The expensive gesture by Jinyuan is an example of the growing economic power of China – and the enduring attraction of France, the world's most-visited country. Now 85 million foreigners visit France, spending €150bn (£108bn) and last year 1.7 million tourists came from China.

According to The Economist Chinese travellers, now account for one in ten tourists round the world, spending more than any other nation – $129bn (£83.54bn) in 2013.

Jinyuan's gift will be a huge bonus for the struggling French economy, which according to The National Institute of Economic and Social Research is set to be overtaken by the UK as the second-largest European economy after Germany.

no its just a prelude to the invasion of normandy before the tiongs take over the world.

You sinkies are jealous that your bosses are too tight-fisted to treat you to a nice holiday. My organization has treated the employees to a free overseas vacation before in return for their good work. Employers don't mind paying well for talented and productive workers.

it was not a VIP treatment?

It's good business to portray it as VIP treatment for the important chinese customers.

The french must have heard about how difficult the PRC chinese can be. So by closing the stores they can minimise the potentilal problems e.g. having more staff on hand, have chinese interpreters,... and probably more security:wink:

there will not be trouble, they run the tour like army, with team leader and all.
since they are on tour on company expenses, they will put on best behaviour.
not like they go on their own, without leader, then we have trouble.
