MDA released a statement today (3 May) announcing that it has
suspended the statutory class licence for Ai Takagi and Yang Kaiheng to operate
The Real Singapore (TRS) website and other related services such as the TRS
Facebook Page, Twitter Page and mobile applications.

“The MDA is satisfied that Takagi and Yang have contravened the Internet Code
of Practice (ICOP). They have published prohibited material as defined by the
Code to be objectionable on the grounds of public interest, public order and
national harmony,” it said.

“The MDA has noted that TRS has deliberately fabricated articles and falsely
attributed them to innocent parties.”

MDA said that TRS has inserted falsehoods in articles that were either
plagiarised from local news sources or sent in by contributors so as to make the
articles more inflammatory.

At least 2 out of TRS’s 3 known editors are believed to be foreigners –
Takagi is Australian, while another editor Melanie Tan is believed to be
Malaysian.

“The foreign editors were responsible for several articles that sought to
incite anti-foreigner sentiments in Singapore,” MDA noted.

MDA believes that the TRS editorial strategy of deceiving readers and
doctoring articles was an attempt to increase traffic to TRS, and thus boost
advertising revenue.

“In so doing, TRS, including its two foreign editors, were seeking to make
profit at the expense of Singapore’s public interest and national harmony,” MDA
explained.

Previously, Takagi and Yang were out of the jurisdiction of the Broadcasting
Act as they were running their operations from outside Singapore. However, since
December, the 2 of them have been running their operations from Singapore,
bringing them within the jurisdiction of the Broadcasting Act.

The TRS pair have been charged with 7 counts of publishing seditious articles
on TRS and the TRS Facebook page. In one of the charges, the pair have been
accused of embellishing an article posted by a supposed witness of the recent
Thaipusam fracas. In the article, TRS had claimed that arrests made on 3
February 2015 were sparked off when a Filipino family complained against urumi
players after their child cried. The Filipino family then told the police to
stop the urumi players playing music which frightened their child. However,
there was no Filipino family involved, according to the contributor of the
article during a police interview.

They have also been charged with refusing to comply with written orders to
produce documents considered by the police investigator to be necessary for the
investigation. They have refused to disclose how much advertising revenue they
have been collecting. Furthermore, TRS has continued to publish material that
contravenes the ICOP even after Takagi and Yang were charged.

MDA has told Takagi and Yang to stop posting any more articles on TRS and
related services immediately; and within 6 hours to disable access to their
website and related computer on-line services.

“Thereafter, they are not to resume operations under any other name. They
have also been given seven days to provide information relating to TRS’s
operations and to make representations as to why their class licence should not
be cancelled,” MDA said.

If their licence is cancelled, Yang and Takagi will not be allowed to operate
the website. MDA will also be able to take other actions including blocking
access to the site and working with social media channels to block access to
TRS’ social media pages.

Flouting the Broadcasting Act can result in a fine of up to $200,000, a jail
term of up to 3 years, or both.

Tonight I went out for a great dinner to celebrate. With TRS out of the way, PAP's chances of winning the GE is even higher. We have revised our election's prediction. It may even be possible for PAP to win back Hougang SMC. Aljunied GRC confirm will fall liao. I think Low Thia Khiang and Sylvia Lim will make suitable NCMPs.

This is SG50....throughout 50 years closing of newspapers and media outlets is a common event. In fact Singapore had more newspapers in the 1960s than it has now. The population was much smaller and less educated but there were more publications than what we have today. One by one they were closed down. In fact only newspapers that the PAP can control was allowed to exist.

The way newspapers like the Herald was shutdown was simple. Newspapers published articles everyday ...thousands are published every year, once there is a misstep in any one of the thousand articles, they will use it to malign the editors, smear them and shutdown the publication.

Quote:The Singapore Herald was a tabloid newspaper in Singapore whose publishing license was suspended by the Singapore government on May 28, 1971. The government had accused the paper of being involved in "black operations", of being funded by questionable foreign sources, of working up agitation against national policies and institutions, and of "taking on the government" [1].
All these are just pretext for closing the publications. The TRS has a editor with a foreign girlfriend who helped him and ads that made money. So very quickly smear campaigns were conducted to insinuate foreign influence and grreed for money. Never mind the fact that Straits Times makes even more money and hire more foreigners than TRS. It is just a pretext anything that can be used for attacks will be used. If the people behind TRS are all singaporeans, they will just created another story, say, that they are under control of foreign agents to create paranoia. By such dirty tactics they have managed to close all major publications that they don't control.

To date, no major blogger that is not completely with the PAP has been unscathed. From Mr.Brown who was sacked from his columnist job Alex Au who has been sued for contempt, they are out to get everyone not under their influence and control.

The whole idea is to stop the purality of views and alternative ideas from emerging and force everyone to accept their ideology. In the end they want to dictate and force their will on the people.

I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I will do my utmost to keep them alive.
Against tyrants and adversity, I will strive.
Together, a better future, we will realise......

Notice:

The Real Singapore has been ordered to disable access to all our online services by the Media Development Authority (MDA) of Singapore.

Why can't they just host / set up the site overseas to prevent MDA from ordering them around?

For that matter, can a site be hosted overseas to prevent MDA from ordering them around? They can write critical stuff about Singapore then.

Singapore orders shutdown of 'anti-foreigner' portal

Singapore (AFP) - Singapore on Sunday ordered a local man and an Australian woman facing jail time for articles seen as hostile to foreigners to shut their website down, saying it threatens "public order and national harmony".

The Media Development Authority (MDA) said it has ordered Yang Kaiheng, 26, and Japanese-Australian Ai Takagi, 22, to take down the The Real Singapore (TRS) website as well as its associated online and social media accounts by 1200 GMT.

The media regulator said in a statement it had suspended the pair's "statutory class licence" to operate the website, which in general is automatically granted without a need for application to people who operate websites inside and from Singapore.

The MDA said Yang and Takagi published material that is "objectionable on the grounds of public interest, public order and national harmony".

The website went offline on Sunday evening, while its widely followed Facebook and Twitter accounts were also shut down.

"The Real Singapore has been ordered to disable access to all our online services by the Media Development Authority (MDA) of Singapore," read a message on the website.

The MDA said the website "has deliberately fabricated articles and falsely attributed them to innocent parties".

"TRS has also inserted falsehoods in articles that were either plagiarised from local news sources or sent in by contributors so as to make the articles more inflammatory," the statement said.

"The MDA believes this editorial strategy of deceiving readers and doctoring articles was an attempt to increase traffic to TRS, and thus boost advertising revenue."

The media regulator said Yang and Takagi have seven days to explain why their statutory class license should not be cancelled.

Yang and Takagi, described by local media as a couple based in Australia, were charged on April 14 with seven counts of sedition over articles on the website and a Facebook page between October 2013 and February this year.

They were also charged with withholding documents on the website's finances from police.

Charge sheets said articles flagged as seditious derided Chinese nationals and other guest workers in Singapore, while one post on the website "falsely asserted" that a Filipino couple instigated a fracas at a Hindu festival in February.

Among other matters the sedition laws makes it an offence to promote hostility between different races or classes in the multiracial city-state, which is mainly ethnic Chinese.

Some observers have accused the portal of fanning xenophobia in the labour-starved island nation of 5.5 million people, 40 per cent of them foreigners.

If found guilty of making seditious remarks in public, the two can be fined up to Sg$5,000 ($3,700) or jailed up to three years, or both, for each charge. They are due back in court for a pre-trial hearing on May 13.

"SGs need to decide in the next GE if the kind of future they want for themselves and future generations - one with more of the same from the FAP or CHANGE!" - MAKAPAAA

A no-brainer option!

Many Singaporeans in this anti-Singapore forum like TRS are still pitifully unaware that they are undermined and led by the nose by foreigners pretending to be citizens of the country with their own covert agenda. Neighbouring countries cannot accept the fact that a tiny island in their midst with no natural resources can outperform and outshine them. They want Singapore to be like their own country mismanaged by their leaders through incompetency, nepotism or corruption. Countries farther afar want Singapore to be beholden to them - begging for alms, arms or mercy. Singaporeans in this forum must wake up now - if they still have not - and know who is the best to lead them and their children to face the challenging future ahead. If they are not careful, they can see their hard-earned country end up like East Timor or one of the islands in the Spratly or Paracel in the South China Sea ready to be grabbed and occupied.

Goh Keng Swee and Toh Chin Chye would have been proud of what MDA did. They were strong believers in PAP's control over the mainstream media, unions and grassroots. Why get upset over MDA closing down TRS when the dead politicians you admired would have done exactly the same?
