[h=1]PM LEE'S MAY DAY RALLY WAS MORE OF A FEAR-MONGERING ELECTION RALLY[/h]
Post date:
2 May 2015 - 7:46pm

At his May Day Rally, Lee Hsien Loong said that the coming elections is about building a new team.

Cautioning voters not to reject his ministers, he said:

"If I lose any of them (ministers), my team would be weakened. And if the team is weakened, can the government deliver on what S'poreans expect of us?"

There are two conclusions you can draw from this:

1. He and his team are so weak that losing any one minister will scuttle their ability to deliver on the PAP's plans.
2. Lee Hsien Loong is desperate. He is using the usual fear-mongering tactics of the PAP to scare S'poreans into voting for him given that he has no track record to rely on to win our votes.

PAP govt's idea of 'delivering' is to fuck over Singaporeans.

Deciphered:

"And if the team is weakened, can the government fuck over Singaporeans harder?"

I am scared! PM Lee was very convincing. My grassroots pals and I all agreed that this coming GE, we must cast PAP votes or else risk weakening the already weakened PAP team. Singapore has declined slightly since George Yeo and his team were ousted. We must vote back 98-100% PAP dominance in parliament to ensure Singapore can return to its heydays.

Interesting.. if you read the context of the PM speech, it is quite a different interpretation.

This year my doctors discovered I had prostate cancer. Luckily they discovered it early. I went for an operation in February. It was successful. Now I am back to work. No medical leave on May Day. After the ops doctor told me, you wait for two months to do a blood test, then we will know if you are clear and then we will see. Two weeks ago two months were up, and I went for the follow-up blood tests were good and doctors gave me all clear. But they are very precise. They never say you are completely out of the woods, they say prostate cancer-specific survival rate 15 years – 98 per cent. What that means is 15 years from now, over the next 15 years, my chances of dying because of the prostate cancer is just 2 per cent which is not bad but - you can go to the bookies with that one - but 15 years from now I will be 78 years old. Even if the prostate cancer does not cause me trouble, something else will act up. It is not just me. It is the same with my team. Just because you are a minister, it does not mean that you are a superman, it does not mean you will not get ill, it does not mean you don’t grow old. And from time to time, Ministers get ill. As a courtesy, they usually let me know, so that I can share their worries. If I lose any of them, my team will be weakened. Can I replace them quickly? With people of the same quality and experience? And if the team is weakened can the government deliver on what Singaporeans expect of us

He is saying that no minister is a superman.. he or she can get old and fall sick. Worst, they can get so sick and pass on. He is citing himself as an example. Because of the age and health of the current team, if anything should happen to the current team, he is worried. He knows that the expectation of Singaporeans on Ministers is extremely high. Therefore PM is thinking of leadership renewal to bring in new blood - good and able men to form the next team.

I disagree with you. It is standard practice to put the message that you want others to remember last i.e. if you lose .... All the talks on cancer are just deceptive ancedotes to allow him to bring out the main message at the end, as it is not appropriate to be talking about losing a minister for such an occasion.

This is an open forum. One can agree or disagree for whatever reasons.

Sometimes one has already made up his mind to disagree before one checks out the facts and the context.

The theme of the May Day rally, if I may summarise , was " Exceptional workers, Exceptional leaders, together we make Singapore succeed. "

“If my team is weakened, would the government be able to deliver on what Singaporeans expect of us?”

I did not know Singaporeans expect flood of poor quality immigrants who do not need to serve NS (with MBA/PhD from Sothern Pacific U ?), lack of university places, constant train breakdowns, lack of hospital beds and 3 to 6 months to see a specialist in public hospitals, dengue epidemics, haze and unaffordable public housing.
Did they also expect to see a 16 year old minor in handcuffs and leg shackles and spending so many days in prison for posting some remarks on the internet?

This statement is a joke. What same quality and experience did he expect from mediocre ministers?

Ah longs are still ruling and ruining the lives of countless debt ridden sinkies. Geylang is now a second Sungai Road. Foreigners are still running wild in the island without fear of being deported for their crimes. What has the Minister done to eradicate these social ills?

When a minister speaks up to protect foreigners and run down natives, what quality and experience has he got to line up sinkies behind him?

The PAP has always ruled with fear.

Ooh! We're surrounded by hostile countries! NS! Total Defence!

Ooh! We have no natural resources! We only have human resources! More productivity! Upgrade your skills!

Ooh! We need to boost the population to prop up the economy! Population White Paper!

LKY was a paranoid little man... naturally his brand of fear mongering extends to the political party he had founded.
