SINGAPORE - Local retailer Popular bookstore has apologised for a tweet which poked fun at teen blogger Amos Yee, who was slapped by a man outside the State Courts on Thursday, local news media reported.

Popular bookstore had posted a photo of a bag of Famous Amos cookies on April 30, along with the caption: "Sorry you got slapped. Here, have some cookies on us!"

The post received strong criticism from netizens. According to Channel NewsAsia, one Facebook user posted a screenshot of the tweet, saying: "Such poor ethics coming from Popular Bookstore (or their lousy social media team, whoever they are). I know you're trying to be smart, but it's insensitive when Amos Yee is a minor, and public violence towards him is not a joke."

The retailer deleted the post the same day and replaced it with another photo which had the message: "Famous Amos for Amos Yee", scrawled on a notepad, along with the caption: "Spread Love, Not Hate. #AmosYee #saynotoviolence"

The next day on May 1, the bookstore then posted an apology, which read: "It was a mistake that we accept and sincerely apologize for. We promise that we won't do it again. #saynotoviolence".

Amos Yee is Singapore's public enemy number 1. He insulted the Christians and our beloved Ah Gong. So, there is nothing surprising behind Popular Bookstore's tweet.

Popular bookstore is a LKY sarka porlumpar PAP dog. It has turned the store into a Lee Kuan Yew Museum and put up a surplus of that dead dictator's books on display.

Will this thirst for books save our local bookstores?

The late Mr Lee Kuan Yew has made us a nation of museum-goers and book-lovers again (at least for a week).

The National Heritage Board has extended the memorial exhibition for the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew by nearly a month to May 24, due to overwhelming public interest.
According to The Straits Times, more than 8,000 people visited the exhibition on Good Friday and Saturday.

This prompted Minister for Culture, Community, and Youth Lawrence Wong to reassure Singaporeans that the exhibition would be extended beyond April 26 and that the artifacts would be curated in permanent exhibitions on Lee.
