CNA and ST report on Amos Yee bail true or not?

CNA and ST says Amos Yee will be kept in prison for at least one day.......

KNN, by 4:30pm, the bail office closed and the pre-trial conference ended after that.......and Sat and Sun, bail office never open one...........

So, why don't CNA and ST report it like it is.........that the pre-trial conference ended after the bail office had closed for the day and it is certain beyond a shadow of a doubt that Amos Yee will be remanded in jail over the Fri, Sat, Sun and only on Mon can anything be done if bail is to be exercised.

If I'm incorrect on this, let me have it...........

On the issue of the law, here it is. Amos Yee's alleged offences are bailable.
He is not a flight risk or a risk to society, as he is not a murderer or a gun-toting robber.

The judge most likely may have erred on his readings of the law to set conditions for allowing the bail, in my opinion.
The bail is set in accordance to whether it is allowed for the offences to be heard.

For example, someone who is charged for molest is allowed bail. Capital offences which involve the death penalty, such as murder, are non-bailable. Some offences which are more serious in nature are also non-bailable. These include rape, kidnapping or voluntarily causing grievous hurt using dangerous weapons. However, the court has the discretion whether to award or deny bail on a case-by-case basis.

http://singaporelegaladvice.com/bai...-bailable-offences-and-sureties-in-singapore/

For bail amounts of $15,000 and below, personal property such as jewellery and moveable household items may be used as collateral for bail. There is no need for the surety to show proof of ownership of such property when proceeding with bail. For bail amounts more than $15,000 however, only monetary collateral in the form of physical cash, savings account funds or fixed/time deposit funds will be accepted.

So, to set the bail at $20,000, the money collateral is real, hard, cold cash that can be used as collateral and not just simply signing of a security or bond, without the need for proof of actual collateral used for the bail.

On another front, in the case of bailable offences, which Amos Yee's 3 charges fall under, the grant of bail is a matter of right. While conditions and terms can be set by the judge, it must be specific to the charges, like to prevent tampering of evidence, leaving the country of jurisdiction and reporting to the IO daily but conditions and terms should not remove or curtail any individual rights of the alleged offender that prevent him from managing his personal, financial and social affairs, in my opinion.

In this context, the definition of one day is until the end of the day previously was 5 pm; now may be 6 pm. There is no overnight stay.

That is why they set a date on Friday...

This reminds one of the Tang Wee Sung case over his illegal buying a kidney.
He was sentenced to a one night stay but because of the timing, was deemed to have served his
sentence by the end of the day and did not spend the night in jail.
Anyone can enlighten on how this works?

Dun think so man. If you're not bailed out, you'll be kept in the lockup.........at Cantonment!......overnight and for as many days until your next court hearing.

Think after go jail can still stand for election to be MP after 5 yrs no conviction... If young are disenfranchised with e.g. high costs of living etc, they might vote Amos into parliament... So PAP must continue to engage the young and help poor people etc yet keep taxes equitable and low... If Amos is creative, think he will survive... This is internet world, if his skills are good enough, he can have teleconference interview and get a job any where in the world...

PAP is trying to whack and eat up tiny Amos in order to restore the climate of fear in the youth of Sinkieland. Will the youth stand by each other to fight for their own future and that of coming generations? Or will they gostan? Or will they rise up and give the PAP indigestion? The verdict is still up in the air. If they follow the example of their parents and grandparents, then Singapore habis oredi!

It's obvious the media has wake up, because it does not not want foreign press to leap-frog them in the reporting....
