SEA Games Organising Committee (Singsoc) exco chairman Lim Teck Yin has criticised Singaporeans for not having the "mettle" to support the national Under-23 football team but his criticism has drawn flak from Singaporeans.

Lim told The Straits Times on Wednesday, "Our SEA Games team is training hard and trying to do their best. For fans, it's your turn now to step up.

"For a fan to say 'you perform then I come', it's sort of saying you're not quite a fan. Fans are there for the highs and lows - they lift the team when they are low.
He also said that Singaporeans should "show your mettle and come out in force" to support the team.

However, former S-League player and coach Shasi Kumar said that it is natural for fans to have expectations because otherwise they would face "disappointment" and disillusionment.

“You cannot blame the fans as well, because we had a really poor run of results,” he told Today.

“How can a fan stand by their team without feeling disappointment or even angry when we cannot even beat a team like Guam, and lose to Syria?

"It is a chicken-and-egg situation, because at the moment, the team is not performing, and fans are understandably disillusioned.”






Fans also explained that they do want to support the national team but where the national team has been performing poorly for the past few years, it is difficult for them to do so as it would mean having to mean to face disappointment which can be upsetting.

They also explained that they still support the national team but even so, fans have learnt to be moderate in their expectations and support.

A few months ago, fans have also asked Football Association of Singapore's president Mr Zainuddin and S-League CEO Mr Lim Chin to step down, and to take responsibility for the poor state of football in Singapore.

However, the duo have not responded but instead, the comment from Lim might look like an attempt to blame Singaporean fans instead.

That's the problem with this military scholar ...they expect people to do as told ...not realizing that this is not how the real world operate.

hahaha, wait long long. The PAP treats the SAF scholarship scheme as a free recruitment and development scheme for its future politicians. Why have thousands of prospective candidates prove themselves through grassroot leadership, political fund raising, networking, etc. while having to pay them, when they can just tell them if they will become PAP members and show their loyalty to the PAP, there is a scholarship and rapid promotion waiting for them, courtesy of the taxpayers.

many such bosses are slave drivers getting their responsibiliies discharged by their 2nd or 3rd I/Cs.......while they take long lunch breaks with Fridays reserved for golf, 19th hole lunch and rub rub........ then pop into office for 5 minutes before going home to prepare for niteclub in the evenings....!!
