PM Najib and wife sue Rafizi

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor filed a libel suit against PKR vice-president Mohd Rafizi Ramli and an online news portal owner over allegations involving the government's oil subsidy rollback. The couple, through legal firm Messrs Hafarizam Wan & Aisha Mubarak, filed the suit at the High Court Registry here yesterday. Today the firm served the suit on Rafizi and co-defendant Chan Chee Kong, who owned Mediarakyat.net. On Dec 4, Najib and Rosmah issued a legal letter to the Pandan member of parliament Rafizi over his purported defamatory remarks made during a talk in Bandar Tun Razak on Nov 22. The talk was recorded and uploaded to Mediarakyat.net's webpage and its online social media portals. Through the suit, Najib and Rosmah seek unspecified general, aggravated and exemplary damages, and five percent annual interest on said damages. They seek an injunction to restrain Rafizi and Chan from further publishing the alleged defamatory statements and for the defendants to publish a written apology in national newspapers and magazines. Najib and Rosmah also seek for Chan to remove recordings of Rafizi's speech from his online news portal and other related internet webpages. The couple also seek costs and any further relief the court deems fit.
