Why is society pissed off by Amos Yee?

Normally, most people would simply ignore comments, rantings, or any kind of activity by a juvenile. But the video posting by Amos somehow struck a raw nerve with many in Singapore. For some reason(s), people seem to want some kind of punishment on him, for what, I don't know? But they do. Some people even reported to the police and got him arrested, and charged. Well, it's the law. Anyways, I do wonder what is it that have got folks so disturbed by this young bloke.

- The truth hurts: It is apparent that LKY is much loved by Singaporeans. If it is not obvious and mentioned at kopitiams, it is indeed the tone set by the official media. So, are people hurt by anti-LKY views?

- He's more articulate than them: For sure this youngster speaks smoothly and is extremely gifted in getting his point across. Could viewers be jealous of his talent?

- He's a non-conformist: Singaporeans are uncomfortable in the presence of people(s) with different views (some time ago, citizens even made death-threats to some Brit who called them "poor and smelly." Locals want blokes to agree with them that LKY was a good man, caring, responsible, a hero. But Amos thought the opposite. That's what I voted.

- All of the above: No need to discuss further.

- Others: This forum is open-minded, and would like to hear other views/opinions that have not been mentioned.

P.S: Some idiots still put the black ribbon on their Facebook profile pictures. And NLB libraries still put up the 'write your tribute to LKY' booths. At the library, I saw a toddler who probably just learnt how to walk/talk... and she pointed at the huge poster of LKY and uttered "Lee Kuan Yew! Lee Kuan Yew!".

What matters is my freedom of speech not yours.if this so called talented Amos yee bugger was singing praises about lky and Christianity and writing glorious tributes,you can be sure all the anti lky haters on the internet would be braying for blood and wishing his entire family 18 generations ham ka Chan.

That is indeed true. Though not everybody likes/loves him, he has developed a following of both pro and anti. His recent passing has seen the outflow of sentiments praising him sky high. In this time and event, I suppose people will give him (as with any other deceased) respect. But the sensationalism accompanying the wake and funeral is beyond anything I could have expected. I suppose those working in the instituitions will give their every possible effort to display their loyalty to him.

The way I see this Amos guy, he is behaving as many teenagers would. Rebellious, obnoxious, defiant, crude. Comes from an upper-middle class family, and at this stage in his life, there is no need to be responsible. I visualise a boy like him sleeping till noon or later on weekends, talking back at parents, spewing vulgar language with his buddies. I wouldn't want him and his group of friends hanging around my property to avoid any mischief they might come up with. In a nutshell, I'll leave his type alone, and hope he would leave me alone too. Too bad in this age of the internet, he has crossed many people. Too bad for him.

I must protest that this poll is similar to the referendum on merger with Malaysia. It presupposes that society is pissed off. Sure, some segments of it may well be. On the other hand, other segments are seeing this as the dawn of a new, freer and better era. The Resistance has just begun!

1) Sinkie Land is a republic not a monarchy. As such, there is no king or queen, and it stands to logic that there is NO such crime as lese majeste.

2) Thailand is a Third World country. Sinkie Land claims to have gone from "Third World to First World", why that dead Old Fart even claimed credit for it by making it the title of the second part of his autobiography, as if the first part did not contain enough nonsense already. Let me get this straight - other people's family matters and how they choose to resolve or air them are none of your business. He is certainly not being hauled up by the Lightning and their poodles for calling his mother a bitch. The real reason why he is being charged is his anti-LKY rants which comes at the time when the Lightning hopes to capitalise on the sympathy votes for an election they must call by 2016.
