residents of this tiny island really dun know their rights when confronted by polis. unless the polis tell u that u are suspected of committing a crime (must spell out what crime), u are not obligated to give them your ID card. give them verbal information can liao. even before giving verbal info to polis, the polis has to show you his/her warrant card. No warrant card mean fake polis, can call 999 to report the fake polis.

that why at road block, unless the TP tell u that u caught speeding or drunk driving, no need to give them driving license. i believe there are many current mata reservists in this forum. u guys should inform the forum about the rights of civilians.

Do not challenge the Police when you are asked to produce your NRIC. Do as you are told and nothing will happen to you. They are just doing their job.

Even tho I carried an authority card in those days, I subject myself to Police checks as required. I would identify myself only after the checks are done.

Yes, pulling a lanyard constitutes an assault under the Law...... This guy would be charged for assaulting a police officer. The use of necessary force to effect the arrest of this guy is justified under the Law too. So what it means is that you better do as you are told when you are being spot checked.

Idiot thinks a lawyer can help him at the scene of the arrest.

Under our rules, the lawyer is permitted to see his client only after investigations are completed....which may be up to a week later....

in u.s.a., he would most likely be dead.......by cops whacking him and shooting him. never mess with cops in the u.s., not even a soft retort nor an accidental touch. they'll find "just cause" to kill you.

In a phone interview on Monday, Mr Lim said he was drinking with a group of business partners at Yang Gui Fei nightclub in Hotel Rendezvous that day when plainclothes police officers entered the outlet and asked for their identification cards.

As the officers’ police identity tags were facing inwards, he asked for their names but could not hear their replies. Subsequently, he tried to flip an officer’s tag but was told that he was not allowed to do so.

Mr Lim said he apologised but the officers pinned him on the ground and handcuffed him, without explaining why he was arrested. He added that the officers also hit his face with their knees and stopped only when his friends told them that he was bleeding.

“It happened too fast, the whole process (took) about five to 10 minutes,” said Mr Lim, who runs a logistics and engineering business.

After being admitted to Tan Tock Seng Hospital that day, Mr Lim said an investigating officer came to take his statement at around noon on Saturday. He also said he suffered from a fractured nose, arm and had bruises near his ear, eyes and head. He was given 10 days of medical leave and will have to return to the hospital for plastic surgery on his nose.

Mr Lim denied that he was drunk, adding that eight of them had shared two towers of beer that night.

The police spokesperson said it takes “a serious view of all complaints made against officers”.

“Such complaints will be thoroughly investigated and if substantiated, the police will not hesitate to take action against any errant officer(s),” he said.

The spokesperson added that appropriate legal action will be taken against any persons who furnish false information, which is punishable with up to one year’s imprisonment and/or a fine not exceeding S$5,000.

if its true, the id must be clearly displayed. Nothing wrong to ask.

Plain clothes usually behave big fucks and xl during spot checks on nightspots. They deem every patrons is an chao ah beng to them and rough up to them.

Lets see hw the jnvestigation will go.

If plainclothes police does not properly show his id tag first, how do I know whether he is fake or not?
Note that there are numerous extortion cases by fake police.

If got nothing to hide why scare to hand over IC? Just get it over with and move on with life better.
