SINGAPORE - A loan shark runner who went on a crime spree last October was packed off to jail for 12 years and ordered to be given 24 strokes of the cane on Monday.
Mohammaad Faizal Ali had committed 24 offences about a year after his release from seven years' corrective training plus caning for theft and robbery with hurt in 2006.
The 33-year-old admitted earlier this month to six charges of loan shark harassment, and to one each of robbery with hurt and causing hurt to a seven-year-old.
The prosecution had highlighted his serious criminal history to urge the court to sentence him to at least 12 years' preventive detention for the safety of society.
