Bus driver gets week's jail and 5-year driving ban for causing rider's death

SINGAPORE - A private bus driver was jailed for one week and banned from driving for five years on Monday for causing the death of a motorcyclist at a road junction.
Toh Kny Lam, 61, who pleaded guilty, was driving a bus along Tuas Avenue 1 on Dec 11 last year when he failed to keep a proper lookout for oncoming traffic while making a right turn at a non-signalised T-junction.
It resulted in a collision with Goh Eng Fong who was riding a motorcycle along Tuas West Road.
The court heard that the 39-year-old rider could not stop in time to avoid the bus which had encroached into his path. The front of the motorcycle hit the right middle portion of the bus. The motorcyclist was flung off the machine and landed on the road.
