PAP member Desmond Choo is rejoining the Labour movement after he resigned from it in May 2013.

In 2013, Mr Choo was the deputy director of industrial relations but he left his position to join the private sector.

Now, after a short stint in the private sector, he is back again and will be becoming the director of youth development as well as being appointed the deputy director of industrial relations.

It is not clear why he chose to leave the private sector and return to the civil service as he had previously expressed that he felt he should "get more exposure in the private sector". Was less than 2 years in the private sector enough exposure for him?

While the PAP ministers have always touted that ministerial salaries need to be high in order to attract talent as these talents can earn much more in the private sector, does this also apply to other top civil service positions?

Did Mr Choo leave the civil service and get a much higher salary in the private sector before deciding that he wanted to sacrifice his higher salary again to return to NTUC less than 2 years later?

Mr Choo was also previously fielded as the PAP candidate in Hougang SMC but he failed twice to win the seat against WP's Yaw Shin Leong in GE2011 and again against WP's Png Eng Huat in the Hougang SMC By-election in 2012.

He was then reported to have been moved to Tampines GRC late last year where he has taken on the role as the second adviser to the grassroots in Tampines East, the ward currently held by former National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan, 67. Do we need proof that, these spoon fed people like these, except for a negligible few, can survive in the private sector. Can "leeches" survive, without a 'host to suck blood from"??

That probably explains why so many sinkies are reluctant to venture abroad to work. Our government is always telling these young graduates, "Fly, for god's sake!"

He was working for Peter Lim and now that Valencia FC has been acquired and Rowsley's other biz activities in the region, esp in Iskandar Johore are stagnant, a move back to NTUC makes sense. This allows him to build up ground support ahead of impending elections. Maybe Ong Ye Kung will follow suit soon.

He's a top government scholar. That makes him qualified to be a senior executive in any large organization - police, SAF, civil service, stat board, corporate, etc. We are lucky that he is willing to give up the potential big bucks in the corporate world and serve in the trade union to help the sinkie Average Joes.
