The CPF scheme is daylight robbery of sinkees' retirement.

The party that will replace the CPF with a pension will get my vote.

Fortunately, they will lose a dozen other votes in return. This natural law would ensure that duds don't get voted into Parliament.

there is no empirical evidence to support this false assumption. the vast majority of singaporeans will be sensible enough not to blow their entire savings. maybe 10 or even 20% might be foolish enough to do so, but the other 80-90% are being punished for the folly of the few.

We should appoint someone who can decide who is sensible and who is not sensible with the CPF and tailor the protection properly - or self-declare and if get $$ early, forever absolve taking more tax payers money should the need arise?

errhh the thing is that this natural law is iffyyy - when things get tough people will vote whoever promises them a way out. Hitler was elected ...because he told the Germans that someone else (scapegoats) were the cause of all their troubles.

We have close to a hundred duds from the PAP in Parliament. How can we remove them? Cow suggested hari-kiri. Can you provide the swords?

Anyone with an ounce of sanity knows perfectly well that a minimum sum has to be retained in order to protect Singaporeans from blowing their life savings.

All opposition politicians agree with the minimum sum policy. Some like Giam support it openly. Others may not want to voice their approval for fear of losing votes.

The bottom line is that it doesn't make any difference who you vote for. The minimum sum scheme will be retained regardless of which political party runs the country.

Singaporeans who believe that voting the PAP out will result in the removal of all the PAP policies are politically naive or downright stupid.

Smarter opposition parties know that there are some things that cannot be changed quickly no matter who is in power. Any policy in Singapore or any instrument can be used for good or bad. Singaporeans need to pay attention to this.

It is one of many false assumptions that the PAP like to foist upon the people. I firmly believe the majority of Singaporeans are smart and educated enough not to squander hard-earned money. Only fools part with their money so easily. Therefore in a way PAP assumes we are either all fools or fools-to-be and cannot be trusted with money. The hard truth is that more and more Singaporeans have already lost their trust in the PAP. If we revert to single member constituencies first-past-the post general elections like our neighbours across the Causeway, a very different political landscape will emerge.

This is the hard truth about the WP:

In recent years, the reason why WP has been gaining votes is because WP has been behaving like PAP. People feel assured with WP because they see a PAP-style party, but wearing blue. WP under Low Thia Khiang was smart enough to switch strategy to win the middle ground.

If WP behaved like a mad dog party like SDP or RP, WP would never had been able to win Aljunied GRC or Punggol-East, and garner over 40% of the votes wherever it contested.

Winning middle ground is the key. any opposition serious about courting the middle ground will not be interested to court the votes of the people like the one shown here. If these radicals represent less than 3% of the electorates and middle ground 35-45%, it not hard to understand why WP does things closer to PAP (only minor tweaks) than what radicals expect.

As such, do not expect WP to oppose PAP too much when it comes to national policies. SDP has come out with countless national policy papers and even drafted shadow budgets. But people still don't give them much credit simply because they do not behave like PAP. They don't have tight discipline and they have too many loose cannons or unreliable candidates who jump from party to party.

SDP policy driven strategy will unlikely work for the reason a sizable chunks of voters won't read and won't understand it. Secondly from the perspective of selling policies, however wonderful the policy proposals will be, sophisticated voters will still ask the how is SDP going to deliver what they proposed as we know chances of SDP forming the next gov is ZERO.

Such strategy can only work if they are fighting neck and neck with PAP to form the government.
