Fruit and veggie tycoon Lim Chin Huat is believed to have sold a $22 million bungalow in Sentosa Cove last month in what is the first sale of a landed home on the island this year.

The apparent sale represents a bright spark in what has been an otherwise bleak market on Sentosa. Only four bungalows were sold there last year at a total value of $56.5 million, down from 18 deals worth $366.76 million in 2013.

The Straits Times understands that Mr Lim, the founder and director of Seasonal Produce, a Singapore-based supplier of fresh fruits and vegetables, sold the 9,268 sq ft property for a profit of $7 million on Feb 17.

Caveats lodged with the Urban Redevelopment Authority showed that the 99-year leasehold detached house in Treasure Island was snapped up for $2,374 per sq ft (psf) by a buyer with a Housing Board address.

Fruit and veggie tycoon Lim Chin Huat is believed to have sold a $22 million bungalow in Sentosa Cove last month in what is the first sale of a landed home on the island this year.

You all should not have listened to your mama, "study hard, or you end up as a road sweeper, vegetable seller.." see what happened!..you have a master degrees etc...you can't even own a property on "Treasure Island"...only maybe a Condo....tuck into a corner at Hindele Road!! & may not even make 7 Million after selling...."your mama was wrong"...should have become a vegetable seller... ha ha ha

This proves that the PAP has done a fantastic job of creating opportunities for heartlanders who live in HDB pigeon holes and it shows that Singaporeans are upwardly mobile even though they have humble roots.

It should read as Fruit and veggies profiteer, not tycoon.

One watermelon cost is about $0.80 and when they sell cut slices, one slice is about $1.....great profits.

That is why I am saying, " should not have listen to mama, why study hard?"....you just become, vegetable seller, fruits seller, one soursop can slice so many pieces & make juices, can make enough to stay on "treasure island"... your HDB flat, what "treasure" is that? :biggrin:

Given that the civil war in China brought massive numbers of refugees to our shores, the SIT did a good job. On the other hand, the PAP could not even co-ordinate immigration and housing policies from the time Ah Loon took over. The Singapore Improvement Trust (SIT) was a government organisation set up in 1927 by the British colonial government in Singapore in response to the housing needs of the population of Singapore.[1] At that time, many people resided in overcrowded shophouses and squatter settlements, resulting in widespread disease and lack of hygiene and sanitation. Often, over 200 people would live in one shophouse. This also generated massive civil unrest and crime.

The SIT was formed with the recruitment of Captain Edwin Percy Richards as deputy chairman. The SIT was composed of professional architects and contractors to resolve this large social problem, with the goal of building affordable public housing for the common population of Singapore.

Projects

One of its earliest projects was the Tiong Bahru housing estate, which is regarded as the first public housing estate of Singapore. However, SIT managed to build only 23,000 housing units in 32 years, unable to find an effective solution to the lack of housing as the population grew faster than it built housing units.

Singapore's first satellite new town, Queenstown, was initiated by SIT in the 1950s but has been developed mostly by HDB.[2]
