A track fault caused a disruption on the East-West line this afternoon at about 5:45pm.

SMRT updated the public explaining that they should expect an additional 20 minutes travel time from Tanjong Pagar to Jurong East.

However, about 5 minutes later, it activated free bus services between boon lay and Queenstown in both directions as the disruption was causing an overload of commuters.

The disruption is the 2nd one today with an earlier congestion happening during the morning peak hour on the Circle Line.

Free bus bridging services were also activated this morning for that 'signal fault'.

The two disruptions today make up the 4th and 5th major disruptions to train services in 1 week and commuters have expressed their dissatisfaction with the way the situations have been handled. Many took to Facebook and twitter to report that there were no clear instructions on the location or provision of bus bridging services and others complained that station staff were not able to answer questions either.

When contacted for comment, an SMRT spokesperson explained that their investigations have found the following about the other three disruptions over this last week:

Feb 23: Disruption of North South Line services between Yew Tee and Kranji

The four and a half hour disruption was due to a damaged power collecting device on the train that affected the third rail which supplies power to trains.

"A fleet-wide inspection of all trains that service the North-South, East-West Lines was completed to ensure all power collecting devices on the trains are in good condition. In addition, we have also inspected the third rail condition along the incident stretch of track to ensure that it is fit for use," SMRT said.

Feb 24: Bukit Panjang Light Rail service disrupted

A Power and signal collecting assembly on an LRT train dislodged, hit a signal rail and caused a power trip. The signal rail was damaged because of this. A system-wide check on all other trains and track found no anomaly.

Feb 27: North South Line service halted for 90 minutes after man was seen on track

At 8.45pm last Friday a man had trespassed onto the tracks and the police were alerted to the incident on the North South Line between Choa Chu Kang and Bukit Gombak stations. The man had been spotted by SMRT staff and for safety, train services were stopped.

SMRT is reviewing its security measures and assisting police with their investigations.

SMRT is still investigating this morning's incident on the Circle Line.

Anton Casey was right after all. Pity he was harassed by so many netizens who could not accept this hard truth.
