Apparently there's another male sibling but very low profile till no info on him

Yeah, very mysterious. Maybe he is back in the old country, Taiping Perak, with the mother's relatives? Never even seen a group picture of him, much less a portrait.

SINGAPORE : Politicians, businessmen and friends turned up to pay their respects to the mother-in-law of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

Madam Chan Chiew Ping, 76, died on Monday. She is believed to have died of cancer after a long illness.

Mr Lee has cut short his official trip to Japan and will return on Wednesday evening, before the funeral on Thursday.

Visitors to the wake included the Speaker of Parliament Abdullah Tarmugi and his wife, Education Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam, former Cabinet Ministers Richard Hu and S. Dhanabalan - accompanied by their wives.

Business leaders including Chief Executive of Osim International Ron Sim, as well as family members - SingTel chief Lee Hsien Yang and his wife - also paid their respects.

The late Madam Chan leaves behind her husband retired businessman Ho Eng Hong, two daughters including the eldest Madam Ho Ching, Temasek Holdings' executive director, and Madam Ho Peng, Curriculum Planning & Development director at the Education Ministry, two sons and seven grandchildren.

The Ho family has requested no wreaths. Instead, donations can be made to the National Cancer Centre or Renci Hospital. - CNA/de

Ho Ching mistaken for tea lady at Shangri-La

Posted on 24 April 2013

Hotel management apologises profusely

Red faces
were present throughout the 2013 Shangri-La Dialogue yesterday as Ho Ching was ordered by an unwitting waiter to wipe up spilt wine. While the wife of Singapore’s Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong who is also the head of Temasek Holdings obliged with nary a smile, Shangri-La management were clearly mortified.

“That white napkin was not meant to be anywhere near red wine!” said head waiter Philippe de Garcon. “It’s frightfully embarrassing that Mdm Ho now thinks that we don’t know the first thing about hospitality.”

According to attendees at the annual security dialogue, Ho later pulled the offending waiter aside and gave him pointers on how to clear up spilt fluids using just a quarter of a napkin.

This would not be a first time Ho was not recognised as the most powerful mother in Singapore. Attendees of various functions ranging from the Chingay parade to Chinese New Year celebrations noted that Ho used to be mistaken for a lion dance troupe member due to her distaste for any article of clothing remotely feminine or flattering to the female form.

“She certainly cuts a maternal figure,” said style guru Jeannie Mai. “Like many other powerful women in the political world, she doesn’t seem to mind exuding masculinity, though she does fall on the slightly dowdy side.”

“Truly, I could never tell that she was the wife of the Prime Minister” said a foreign dignitary present at the Shangri-La dialogue, who chose not to be named.

“The first time I saw her, I honestly thought the world had its second gay prime minister!”

“But after all that’s said, she has a great heart.”

Yeah, because her Surname is Chan. Not many Hakka with Chan surname. ALthough its possible because Taiping also has a large hakka population. But than the father is surname Ho, another Cantonese name. In those days, the older generation married within their dialect group. All my older relatives married the same dialect. You don't see too many Hokkien marry to Cantonese due to the ethnic tensions in those days.

Based on what I have seen, that appears to be true.
And mixed marriages are "taboo" (I may be 'disowned')

No wonder the people's education in Singapore is so deficient that, their jobs goes to the FT's...especially the P.M.E.T's.....they must be receiving lousy education... ha ha ha

This one belongs to the "HO" empire...how come a man has a girl's name..."Siew Hoong"??? bet, he has no balls...

I agree with you that the education system here is somewhat deficient.

There is no university in the world that churned out so many Taxi Drivers.

The end result is that we have PMET that ultimately work behind the wheels for a living.
