SINGAPORE: The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said on Wednesday evening (Mar 18) that it is lodging a police report over a fake statement about former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew.

The image of the doctored statement from the PMO's website has been circulating on social media and on WhatsApp. Channel NewsAsia has checked and verified that the image is a fake. No new information has been released by the PMO.

Still, the fake image prompted American broadcaster CNN and China's CCTV to put up erroneous tweets that Mr Lee had died. The Chinese state broadcaster also broke the news on air.

CCTV has since deleted the erroneous tweet, and later posted: "News has come in that initial reports on the death of Lee Kuan Yew may have been faked, but it is still unclear." It also issued a clarification on its official Weibo account.

CNN did not delete its initial tweet but posted a report that a Government spokesperson dismissed the image as a hoax.

Hong Kong-based Phoenix New Media also issued an erroneous report, but later apologised for making a "big mistake". It said it was "deeply sorry" and would be taking stern action against people involved.

Mr Lee, Singapore's first prime minister, is at the Singapore General Hospital in critical condition. On Wednesday, doctors said Mr Lee's condition had deteriorated further. He has been in hospital since Feb 5, after being admitted for severe pneumonia.

Not a pin, but a big fat plastic tube.

Alternatively, I believe you can volunteer to suck out the urine with your mouth?

Ah Gong had once expressed that he would like either Chee or JBJ to suck his urine out. KJ can replace his dad. Alternatively, we can get Roy. Roy is a trained Missy, isn't he? He also has been disrespectful towards Ah Gong recently, and needs to repent and show his remorse.

Looks like this is a fake, it was posted by someone in HWZ, but it's not in the TR fb page anymore.

PMO lodging police report about fake website announcing death of Mr Lee Kuan Yew

SINGAPORE - The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) is lodging a police report about a fake website bearing the PMO logo and announcing the death of former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew.

Screenshots of the website started circulating on Wednesday night, leading some foreign media outlets to carry reports of Mr Lee's death, only to retract them later.

The Straits Times checked with the PMO, which said no new information has been issued since an update on Wednesday afternoon that Mr Lee was critically ill.

That PMO update drew crowds - including reporters from foreign news outlets - to the Singapore General Hospital (SGH), where Mr Lee is in the Intensive Care Unit after being hospitalised on Feb 5 for severe pneumonia.

Foreign media that mistakenly reported Mr Lee's death included CNN Breaking News and China's CCTV, Sina and Phoenix Chinese News.

CNN Breaking News said in a tweet shortly after 10pm that Mr Lee had died, citing a "government website".

But 10 minutes later, it published another tweet: "Reports emerge that statement attributed to Singapore government about Lee Kuan Yew may not be official."

CCTV, Sina and Phoenix Chinese News similarly reported on Mr Lee's death but shortly after said the reports had been wrong. Sina and Phoenix apologised for the mistake.

LKY is not a 'founding father'. Sir Stamford Raffles was the founder of Singapore. LKY was just an opportunistic politician who was upset that the Tunku had called his bluff.

1942-1945: TRAITOR

1965-: USURPER and DICTATOR

At least teach your kids the truth instead of letting their minds be poisoned by MOE-approved history textbooks. Some of them never outgrow the brainwashing programming and grow up to be total imbeciles e.g. Jason Chua Chin Seng.

If you want to be more tactful, say that LKY is a 'divisive figure'... just like Margaret Thatcher. At least that is closer to the truth.
