Bullshit. It's because Mindef and SAF do not trust Malay-Muslims in more sensitive units. The Military Security Department would never give Malays the highest security clearance levels that are required in classified units. So much for 'regardless of race, language or religion'.

The logistical excuse is a sham. NS men who are vegetarians could have the appropriate food rations. No problems whatsoever.

Stop telling lies already, Ng Eng Hen. For once in your scummy life, be honest. Just admit that the PAP govt is racist, hypocritical, dishonest and paranoid.

Happy SG50.

Under the Brits the Malays were naturals for the uniformed professions, police and armed forces. They had a tradition. After separation , they were not trusted and you almost never found Malays in uniform. LKY was more forthright about the reasons, namely, we shouldn't put a Malay in a position of defending the country against someone with whom he shared emotional religious ties. The policy changed gradually but Malays were still kept out of sensitive units. It is a tribute to our Malay community they were so understanding. Strangely enough Malaysians never had this problem when they defended the country against Indonesians during Konfrantasi.

By the way, halal food is nothing but the exclusion of pork and the requirement that cattle and poultry be ritually slaughtered. I doubt this was such a logistical problem for the SAF.

Both father and son LKY and son! have been on record for saying that you cannot trust a Malay Muslim to be in such a position holding a gun. In the past many Muslims were happy as most did not serve NS because of this policy.
I believe until today the prime airbase does not allow Malay Muslims into the base. Even tech to repair photostat machine must not be from that race. Even people who top up drink machines have to be non Malays. So local Malays have been never allowed to sign on in Rsaf as tech. I have seen Chinese Muslims but never Malay Muslims, long time ago the old Muslim guys from the British army were allowed to stay until they retired.
So much for the pap to now say it's because of kitchen problems. Real Muslims cannot share the cooking and eating plates with Chinese food. Go to any food court and if they wash the things together ,how do they get halal cert.

If PAP is clever, they should appoint only Malays in the defence forces. They will not migrate or abandon their post in an enemy attack. Its their ancestral homeland.

The modern proto Malay race are in no way related to the orang asli of Singapore. If Malaysia doesn't make this case then I don't see why Malays in Singapore can make such claims.

An incredibly large number of Malays in Singapore trace their ancestry to Indonesia and Malaysia. Even the earliest demographic records in Singapore show that we have been a Chinese-dominant country for hundreds of years. The original orang asli of Singapore numbered very few and had no input on our rise as a country.

SAF is right to be worried about green-against-blue attacks, which we had witnessed in Afghanistan on several occasions. Political correctness cannot be used as an excuse to leave your brains at the door. Singapore is worried about the possibility of a joint-invasion by both Malaysia and Indonesia. When that happens, followed by calls of jihad by Indon and m&d clerics, would some of our own local Muslims end up turning their guns on our own SAF guys?

Singapore treats Muslims far better than non-Muslims are treated in Malaysia and Indonesia. In our SAF, there are Muslim senior officers and Muslim politicians in the Cabinet. We even had a Muslim president.

LKY is right to worry about the loyalty of soldiers being affected by religion. It is not about racism, but about common sense. If you don't wish to be viewed with suspicion about your loyalty, then show that your loyalty is to your country and not to religion. For most religions today, religion and politics are kept separate. It is not so for Islam, where religion and politics are viewed as one. It's a hard truth by the wise old man.
