Household income I believe, cos there are at least 2 working adults in each family.

I think it includes CPF and bonus also.

Median income in Singapore could be derived as follow: -

1) Top 5% earn 80% income.
2) Remaining 95% earn 20% income.

It could be 5:95 vs 80:20 ratio in income inequality.

Is median not mean!

Not much different in perspective.
I just try to paint a layman term, not in statistician mind.

Well said, we should encouraging those with a household income of $7000 per month to vote PAP and those with less to vote them out. I'm sure PAP will win by an even larger margin based on these statistics.

Ha ha, a good point.
How about this: - voters earning >8,000 a month go to present gov. party, while <8,000 go to oppo. parties.
It ensure our income will be increased tremendously every year regardless of GDP and FT intake.

We learn about mean and median in secondary school. Need not be a statistian to understand it.

From comment in TREMERITUS

According to the latest report by the Singapore Department of Statistics on “Key Household Income Trends, 2014″, median monthly household income among resident employed households from work rose from $7,870 in 2013 to $8,290 in 2014.

This is a 5.3% increase in nominal terms. In real terms (after taking inflation into account), it is 4.1%.

Median monthly income from each member of the household also rose from $2,247 in 2013 to $2,380 in 2014.

This is an increase of 5.9% in nominal terms, or 4.7% in real terms.

Income inequality is said to stay at its lowest levels in more than a decade. The Gini coefficient, a measure of income inequality, was 0.464 last year, compared with 0.463 in 2013.

Including government transfers and taxes, the Gini coefficient last year was 0.412, up from 0.409 in 2013. The 2013 reading was the lowest since it was first calculated in 2000.

What is not disclosed in mainstream media

A TRE reader, Win battles lose war, commented, “Our 153rd ranked Press Freedom media can write it in any way or spin they want – but the fact remains that income inequality rose last year as both Ginis increased.”

Going through the report, the reader noted, “But what is very strange is that the number of households with no employed persons increased by 14,300 from 110,800 to 125,100 (or 13%), which is so much more than the increase of just 4,600 the previous year.”

The reduced number of households used for the tabulation will naturally increase the median income level.

“Why is this so and what does it mean? That a lot of households became unemployed?” he asked.

He also asked, “Why is there no breakdown into Singaporean and PR households?”
In not breaking down the numbers, the propaganda number that they are trying to project sounds better mah.

“Since it is estimated that PRs earn generally about 28 per cent more than Singaporeans and the Singaporeans unemployment rate is higher than the PRs unemployment rate – the statistics must be much worse for Singaporeans,” he added.

This one, no need to say. They massage figures around - and they wonder why their credibility is dropping.

Yah existence, not life.

Life is what you make of it. In Singapore, all the basic necessities are met.... food. clothing, shelter are non issues.

Once the necessities are taken care of, it is up to each individual to make their lives meaningful and fulfilling. It is not the government's job to do that. People have to achieve that themselves.

We are all different and my idea of life won't be the same as someone else's.

what facts ???? :confused::confused:

the real truth is
top 15% have an extremely comfortable existence
the next 20% have a very comfortable existence
the next 25% have a comfortable existence
the bottom 40% are struggling to have an existence.
of course the % given is just an estimate , give of take 5%.

Your definition of struggling is flawed. Not being able to afford an iPhone is not struggling.

This is what real struggling looks like.
