That's disingenuous. You cannot compare deaths from premeditated violence – war, genocide, terrorism, Holocaust, Rape of Nanking – with deaths from misguided socio-economic policies – Great Leap Forward – or natural disasters – earthquakes, tsunamis – or government negligence – Fukushima nuclear disaster.

From the angle of ethics, premeditated violence always ranks highest on the scale of evil.

Yes, it resulted in millions of deaths, with estimates ranging from 20 million to 45 million. But most of these deaths came from poor harvests because of diversion to backyard steel harvesting, the Yangtze flood of '59 (2 million), and the drought of '60, resulting in one of the 20th century's worst famines. The deaths from violence perpetrated by the Commie regime number at most in the hundreds of thousands.

Likewise, are we to say that it's right to perpetrate acts of terrorism on sub-Saharan African countries and South Asian countries, because more people die from famine annually in these regions than in any other parts of world?

Or should we conclude, since the Fukushima nuclear incident – a result of years of wilful neglect and negligence on the part of the authorities – killed almost 2,000 Japanese and left more stricken with lymphoma and leukemia, what is the beheading of 2 Japanese by ISIS in comparison?

Many countries in the 3rd World have instituted policies resulting in extreme poverty and the deaths of millions every year from starvation, disease and the lack of clean water. Do we then say: ah, you killed millions of your own people, therefore it's justified for us to invade your country, bomb your buildings, rape your women and kill your men?

Now, what kind of logic is that? :rolleyes:

I use the CCP logic here: the KMT failures of the 1938 Yellow River flood and the 1942 Henan famine were almost as "evil" as the Japanese invasion of China. they don't clearly differentiate between premeditated violence and deaths from natural disasters or misguided policies. same standards should be applied for the KMT and the CCP. the CCP's Great Leap Forward and the Culture Revolution started off as a political and ideological struggles and ended in 80 millions of deaths in China, directly and indirectly. that is really indefensible by any standards.

The CCP used KMT failures as a justification for civil war. No CCP leader, dead or alive, would ever equate KMT incompetencies with the evils of the Japanese invasion. He'd be lynched, figuratively and literally.

Just so, some 3 to 4 million Koreans (military & civilian) were killed in the Korean Civil War. Does that justify the brutal Japanese occupation of Korea for 35 years? (Using DPR logic of uniting 2 Koreas under commie rule?)
