SINGAPORE - A woman has been ordered to undergo mandatory treatment for a year, for abusing two of her Indonesian maids.

Kok Ai Ling, 37, had pleaded guilty last December to four charges of voluntarily causing hurt to Ms Asriyatun, then 26, and Sri Wachyuni, then 24, at her flat in Jurong West. This took place between October 2011 and January 2012.

Ms Asriyatun worked for her from June to November 2011, and Ms Sri Wachyuni, for a month from December 2011.

Kok, who arrived in court with her husband and her newborn baby, also agreed that neither she nor her immediate family members will employ a domestic helper.

She also has a six-year-old son, who is autistic.

The court heard that Kok, who suffers from major depression and a genetic skin disease, has compensated both maids.

On Oct 17, 2011, she kicked Ms Asriyatun several times on her thigh for being forgetful. She had also told the maid to kneel and read out her 'mistakes' she had written on a piece of paper.

The next day, Kok slapped the maid on the head a few times, causing her head to hit the wall.

Ms Asriyatun could not tolerate the abuse any more and called the police while she was at Kok's mother's house. She was then removed and sent for medical treatment.

In the case of Sri Wachyuni, the court heard that Kok hit her on the mouth, nose and cheeks on Jan 5, 2012. She also hit the back of the maid's head, and grabbed her hair.

After letting go of her hand, Kok pulled the maid by the T-shirt and punched her on the cheek, which resulted in a bruise.

Kok had assaulted her as the maid could not read her 'mistakes', which were written in English.

A week later, Kok attacked her again when she was washing clothes and spilled water on the floor. Furious, Kok kicked her on the thigh and pushed her on the chest. She then grabbed her hair and pulled her forward. She also pushed her down again, causing her to fall and hit her forehead, before dragging her along the floor by her hair.

Even after the maid got up, Kok pulled her hair and slapped her on the cheek.

Three other charges were taken into consideration during her sentencing.
