IT question about which HDD to get?

Currently I'm using a SSD drive as my boot up drive & have a couple of 1 TB HDDs daisy chained. Since I updated to the Win 64 bit OS, I have been considering getting a new 3TB or 4TB HDD to replace all my older 1TB drives. Probably save some electricity if I run just 1 HDD.

Which brand & capacity should I look at:confused:
The following are some of the current prices of HDDs:

Hitachi Enterprise (warranty 5Yrs) 2TB $210
HGST NAS 7200rpm (warranty 3Yrs) 3TB $179

WD Black 7200rpm (5Yrs) 2TB $185
WD Black 7200rpm (5Yrs) 3TB $237

WD Red Pro 7200rpm (5Yr) 2TB $198
WD Red Pro 7200rpm (5Yr) 3TB $238

WD 6TB Caviar Green 64MB (2+1 Yr).......338
WD 4TB Caviar RED NAS HDD (3 Yrs)......235
WD 6TB Caviar RED NAS HDD (3 Yrs)......375
WD 4TB Caviar Red Pro 7200rpm/64MB (5Yr)...318
WD 4TB Caviar Black 7200rpm 64MB (5 Yrs)...310

Get the hp sff Sas 10k rpm in a raid 5 hot swappeable configuration. They give you the best bang for bucks and performance imho.

thats less than one dollar per GB.

Storage nowadays is cheap. The HDD drives I am looking at are 2 to 6 Terrabytes & not GB.
However I am worried about those 4 & 6 TB drives because they are I think they are pushing the performance envelope.

I'll probably get a 2 or 3 TB HDD. I'll have to get a blue ray writer to back up the data.

I used to buy plenty of magazines but nowadays prefer to download them because there is more variety available on the internet. The problem with magazines is that they take up space & I find it hard to throw them away:o

As for porn you can watch them using XBMC. I'm am thinking of starting a virtual library of music, movies, books, magazines ,... etc

There's no need to buy 6TB HDDs. It is more cost effective to get a series of 2TB HDDs for now.

Spinning platter disk drives still have a bottleneck in data transfer speeds. We'll need to wait a few more years before the SSDs improve in reliability and affordability.

If you have important data, buy a soild state drive (more expensive) and keep in waterproof pelican box with silicone beads that comes in an flat metal case (can reheat and reuse.

Already using a SSD for my primary storage. I'm looking at upgrading my secondary storage, actually used to be my older HDDs. A few Smaller WD drives.

I Want to keep data on a single location so that I don't have to hunt for the file e.g. Music files

I'll probably get a Hitachi. Seems to be a reliable brand. Maybe that is why they were bought over by WD:confused:

I am using the 64 bit version of Windows. It will only recognize up to 2TB. So maybe I'll just settle for a 2Tb HDD

Although my motherboard is 4+ years old it has no problems recognising the 4TB HDD as a single HDD. So I didn't have to separate into smaller partitions. I got myself a 4TB Hitachi NAS HDD. When I install it I can see 3.63TB of free space. Size wise its is physically the same size as my 1TB WD drive.

If I ever decide to setup a RAID I can re-use this HDD as part of a RAID setup because it a NAS drive.
