LTA raises fines for illegal parking

Our public transport is so perfect, I wonder why some people still want to drive.

From next year. a motorist who has parked illegally along unbroken double yellow lines will be fined S$110, instead of S$70, if this is the second Notice of Traffic Offence he has been issued within 12 months.

SINGAPORE: The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has announced higher fines for repeat offenders for illegal parking. Starting from Jan 1, 2015, it will introduce a tiered fines regime, such that motorists who receive their second Notice of Traffic Offence (NTO) within 12 months will have to pay a higher tier of fines.

A motorist caught parking a light vehicle along unbroken double yellow lines will be fined S$110, instead of S$70, if this is the second NTO he has been issued within 12 months.

The number of demerit points, which are meted out for more serious illegal parking offences, will remain unchanged, said LTA in a news release on Monday (Dec 22). NTOs issued prior to Jan 1, 2015 will not be taken into consideration when applying the tiered fines regime.

This is the first adjustment to illegal parking fines in two decades. LTA said that about half of all illegal parking traffic notices issued between 2011 and 2014 were committed by repeat offenders and this latest revision is to reduce the number of repeat offenders and hence the number of illegal parking offences.

Raising fines is the only way the ministers and the civil servants know how to solve problems.
Remember the case where there was a shortage of parking spaces for residents in certain HDB estates?
Govt's solution? Raise parking charges - how does THAT solve the farking problem?

To rich $inkies and foreigners, parking fine is like valet parking tips: loose change only...
Look / queue for public parking lot = no 'dignity' lah...
"If the annual salary of the Minister of Information, Communication and Arts is only $500,000, it may pose some problems when he discuss policies with media CEOs who earn millions of dollars because they need not listen to the minister's ideas and proposals. Hence, a reasonable payout will help to maintain a bit of dignity."

Courier service fees will just go up lor (need to pay parking or just deliver lesser if need to search for parking lot): what to do? SGP getting more crowded with foreigners etc, so roads can no longer afford to become jammed up: so fines for those who stop/ park illegally...

Sauce thread (sby): Re: LTA raises fines for illegal parking
Our public transport is so perfect, I wonder why some people still want to drive.
In truth, there are MANY car owners, having paid $70+ k COE drive to make full use of the COE since say a Toyota corolla 1.6L will cost SGD 100,000 over 10yrs to use (excluding ERP/ petrol costs etc), that also means like SGD 10,000 per year or = $200/week or like almost SGD 30/ day to use so they must feel must drive like few hours on road to make their $30/ day expense worth it... COE does add to costs of living which makes life very stress since late car installment only invites repo man not confiscate car... This stress makes drivers drive recklessly resulting in roads unsafe for cycling and frequent jams due to car accidents causing even more road delays: a vicious cycle of stress in other words..

Cycling being dangerous due to reckless car drivers aside, the lack of respect for cyclist in road design and lack of bathing facilities mean that people grow fat from lack of exercise and so quickly fill up public transport trains/ buses with their fat and heavy (some say smelly) bodies.

Public trains, designed for NEITHER the overweight passengers NOR the increase in passenger volume is either uncomfortable (undersized seats/ squeeze @ peak periods)/ breaks down from overuse.

All these culminate in the multifold transport problem in Singapore: the roots of which can be found in greed and its associated antisocial behavioural symptoms as seen/ described...

'Dignity'= just euphemism/ greed in disguise lah:...

Before the pledged was written, before the road was paved for any kind of lines to be drawn (directional or otherwise), (some say even BEFORE Raffles was even born) parking around mosque was practised on Friday afternoons...

So case law (if not the constitution) dictates that around mosque on Friday afternoon, parking restrictions do not apply (of course not to extant that whole road is blocked of course).
