Parties’ S&CC quarrel: Focus on the "mother of all our problems"?

Two political parties are wasting their time and resources, and the people's time - quarrelling about one town council's service and conservancy charges' (S & CC) arrears.

They should focus on more important issues affecting the nation and every Singaporean, like CPF.

If the people had received the returns derived from our CPF funds like every other country in the world, instead of just part of the returns - we would all have more money - and everybody can pay their S & CC and not be in arrears.

And if your children have problems paying their S & CC - since you have money - you can help them to pay as well.

If you started work at 20 years old, 45 years ago, with a starting salary of $200 a month increasing at 4 per cent a year - assuming an average CPF total contribution rate of 37 per cent and a return of 6.5 per cent - you would have $442,865 in your CPF at age 65 now.

If the average weighted interest on your CPF was 3.5 per cent - you would only have $222,479.

In other words you have been shortchanged by $220,386.

Go to moneyforums.co.uk/savings_calculator.php and enter your total monthly CPF contribution amount (for example $80) when you first started work to calculate how much you have lost from the day you started working until now?

Kwa Geok Choo has already passed on. We should not speak ill of the dead.

You are right, we shall not speak ill of those who pass on...but we can "curse" those, who are still around, heaping miseries on us all & remember that those who had gone, left a legacy, in which we are paying the price & grappling with the consequence...

Yes...we do not speak ill of the dead..may the rest in Peace!..( peace, is not what we have).

Many people want the truth.
Even if a person is dead. People expect the truth & justice to be carried out. This means punishing those still around & seizing their assets to compensate for loses.

PAP's ploy to distract Singaporeans from the real problems.

There are so many PAP ministers who have no portfolios but earn more than President Obama and are free to bother WP.

Singaporeans must remain focused and continue to zero in on the real problem, pap

It is the PAP that needs to focus on solving the problems with our tax money. Every quarrel, from TCMR, to hawker centres, to trade fairs, was started by them. I can't recall one quarrel that was started by WP.

The (newly registered) PAP IBs are now attempting to blame both sides for the issue, when it was the PAP which had thrown the first stone and went about its usual business of fixing the opposition.

Perhaps Plan A was perceived as a failure, so they sent some cyber-astroturfers to go with Plan B: blaming both sides while maintaining the illusion of being a disinterested, nonpartisan, neutral observer.

Now where have we seen this before?

Deadly serious fight indeed.

Jokes aside, it may be a good proposition as the drop in oil price is engineered. The rumble may drop a little further but should not have another sharp dip. Those who engineered all these won't want Russia to die. It is just for money. But it may be foolish to focus on the interest rate but more on the prospect of appreciation in value.

When OPEC decided not to cut output, I thought that it was the US fracking operations that were in their gun sights.

The plot thickens.

that's a result of a 2-party system. they will spend more time fighting each other than taking care of their wards. at least the pap fight with one hand yet take care of their wards with the other. to avoid fights and stalemates, sg needs a one-party system.

No. Plan A is still in effect. Plans A and B run concurrently.

Plan B operators are selling the message that all these quarrels is because of plurality in parliament, so please reject plurality. When people can only choose one party to occupy the whole parliament, they will surely choose PAP.

Right now, every vote counts for PAP even if that strategy wins them only 100 votes across the whole Singapore. But it will backfire if their strategy wins them 1 vote and cost them to lose 5 votes.
