SINGAPORE - A fire broke out early this morning at a workers' dormitory in Geylang Lorong 4 and killed three people.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said in a media statement that they were alerted to the fire at about 1.40am.

Two fire engines, two red rhinos, six ambulances and two supporting vehicles were dispatched to the scene.

"Upon arrival within five minutes, thick black smoke was coming out of the unit. SCDF fire fighters entered the unit with two water jets.

The fire was located in the centre of the unit and was extinguished within 30 minutes," the statement said.

While conducting a search of the unit, fire fighters found three people lying unconsciousness in one of the rooms.

They were immediately brought out of the unit and CPR was performed on them by SCDF paramedics.

However, they could not be saved and all three were later pronounced dead at scene.

SCDF said it also conveyed seven other occupants of the unit to Tan Tock Seng and Singapore General Hospital.

In addition, two fire fighters sustained minor injuries while fighting the fire and were also conveyed to hospital.

The cause of fire is under investigation.

According to the "US Safety General " it Maybe a case of

OverCrowded Dormitory
and Possible Unauthorised Dormitory .

If it is Over Crowded and UnAuthorised Dorm

Everybody is conscious of their own lies, but not everyone is stung by moral implications.

I thought we have one of the strictest fire safety code in the world plus M.O.M. rules are very strict on where you house you workers? & you apply for permit, in MOM system, the place of abode is not approved, you do not get the permit.!!

Look like..."ah tiong's" have connection & now they are making " an honest mistake" in allowing these workers to live illegally in Geylang...most likely the workers are listed as staying in those purpose built dormitories, but illegally staying outside...

They are so busy enforcing & changing rules to fix the oppositions, while fire & worker's safety....they make " honest mistakes"...

With the entire surrounding area having such a neglected state and everyone doing anything they fancy with BCA, SCDF or whatever turning a blind eye, I am surprise the whole place isn't raze to tye ground till now.

Now you Sinkie know what is 'selective development' according to the PAPies. LoL

Three dead after fire breaks out at Geylang unit

Three people were found unconscious in one of the rooms at the Lorong 4 Geylang unit,

and were later pronounced dead at the scene by SCDF Paramedics.

SINGAPORE: A fire broke out at a unit in Lorong 4 Geylang early Saturday morning (Dec 6).

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the incident at about 1.40am and arrived within five minutes.

Three people were found unconscious in one of the rooms.

After attempts to resuscitate them by CPR, they were later pronounced dead at the scene by SCDF Paramedics.

Seven other occupants of the unit were also sent to Tan Tock Seng Hospital and Singapore General Hospital.

Meanwhile, two SCDF fire fighters sustained minor injuries while fighting the fire and were sent to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

Two fire engines, two red rhinos, six ambulances and two supporting vehicles were deployed to the scene.

SCDF said that the fire was located in the centre of the unit and was extinguished within 30 minutes.

It added that the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Migrant Workers' Centre (MWC) said that it has been working with the Ministry of Manpower,

the Singapore Police Force and hospital staff where those injured in the fire are being treated to better

understand the current situation and communicate with the injured workers.

Its Executive Director, Bernard Menon, said in a statement that MWC will also assist the deceased and their next-of-kin,

and be readily available to the injured workers.

He added that the "foremost objective is to find out how they are and reassure them of our readiness to assist them,

should their employer for any reason be unable to do so."

It is okay to leave the buildings as they are and retain some authenticity.

It is the people who are fucked up: the people who are allowed into the country, and the people who let them into the country.

i worry that this incident is any call for more checks on the Geylang areas by SCDF .

There is, there was by SCDF, MOM..NEA, ICA...etc....it is either somebody is sleeping on the job or somebody is "sleeping" doing the job...

Agencies are reluctant and lazy to conduct checks. It will take 50 odd years to do so.......can you recall?
