If they fucked up their pricing, they should still honour it. Fucking SQ.

Travellers snap up half-price business tickets on Singapore Airlines after computer error

Christmas has arrived early for hundreds of travellers after Singapore Airlines business-class tickets were mistakenly sold for flights to destinations in Europe for as much as half their actual price.

The mistake has led to a dispute between the airline and travel agents around the country over who should foot the bill for the error.

Singapore Airlines loaded business-class fares for flights between Australia and London into a global booking system that travel agents use to sell tickets to their customers.

The cost of business-class tickets that should have sold for up to $6000 a piece for flights from December 8 was loaded into the global distribution system, or GDS as it is known in the travel trade, for as little as $3500.

Hundreds of tickets are understood to have been snapped up by travellers who were lucky enough to spot the bargain fares for seats on one of the world's most highly regarded airlines.

The airline was finally alerted to the error by Flight Centre.

However, Singapore Airlines has since told travel agents who sold the cheap tickets that they will have to seek the difference between the actual price and what they should have sold for from their customers, or foot the bill themselves.

A spokesman for Flight Centre said it became aware of the issue on Saturday and notified Singapore Airlines of the problem, which appeared to have been fixed on Monday.

"Basically, the fare showed up in the booking system that online and bricks-and-mortar travel agents use as a business-class fare," the spokesman said.

"We have a good relationship with Singapore Airlines and will continue to talk to its management team in Australia to hopefully ensure a good outcome for our customers who have been affected."

Singapore Airlines said it had advised travel agents of various options, including paying the difference to its lowest business class fare, travelling in economy class on the booked ticket, refunding the difference between the fare charged and its lead in economy-class fares or offering a full refund.

Fucking stupid scholar think this is SAF is it. Screw up still can recover difference.

Just in case you guys are not aware. If SAF over pay your salary, even after 10 years, they will bill you the difference + 4% or 5% interest on the difference, even when they cock it up in the first place. I have know friends who kena this.

It's not a computer error, it's a human error. Other online retailers had also experienced a similar embarrassment.

Attempting to recover money is bad PR and in poor taste, but a scholar-run GLC is already in bad taste.

Serves those twits for outsourcing their IT jobs. It's the same as the other idiots who didn't do any proofreading before submitting their work.

SQ was informed by the Australian travel agents about the error on Saturday. They did not rectify it until Monday!! Now want to blame other people. SIA really got the mindset of the PAP, which is, even if I am wrong, I will never admit it. This is really incompetence.

Singapore Airlines blames agents for selling business class fares at economy rates

A COMPUTER error that saw around 900 business class airfares sold at economy prices has driven a wedge between Australian travel agents and Singapore Airlines.

It is understood the fares for flights between Singapore and European destinations were incorrectly loaded into the system by the airline.

As a result about 900 of the “cheap” fares were sold by online agents in Australia between Saturday and Monday.

But now Singapore Airlines is demanding agents inform their clients of the issue and charge them the difference — which in some cases is as much as $5000.

Travel agents who do not recover the money from clients have been told they will have to pay up themselves.

A Singapore Airlines spokeswoman confirmed the airline had “recently reassigned a booking subclass originally designated to economy class bookings to be used for business class bookings from December 8, 2014”.

“We have been notified that a small number of travel agents have sold tickets against this reassigned business class subclass, at an economy class fare level,” said the spokeswoman.

“The airfare conditions for the fare clearly stated that it was only valid for economy class travel.”

She said agents had been notified of “various options available to customers”.

These included “paying the difference to the lowest business class fare, travelling in economy class on the booked ticket, or refunding the difference between the fare charged and our lead-in economy class fares, or offering a full refund”.

“We are working with our travel agent partners to ensure that our customers are notified of this issue so that steps can be made to ensure there is no disruption to their travel plans,” the spokeswoman said.

Singapore Airlines recently offered economy class return deals in Australia for as little as $1554 from Sydney to Barcelona, and $1769 from Melbourne to London for travel between March and November next year.

A Flight Centre spokesman said they became aware of the issue on Saturday and notified Singapore Airlines - but the problem was not rectified until Monday.

“The fare showed up in the booking system that online and bricks and mortar travel agents use as a business class fare, although it was also listed as economy in the fare rules - hence our messages to the airline over the weekend,” he said.

“We have a good relationship with Singapore Airlines and will continue to talk to its management team in Australia to hopefully ensure a good outcome for our customers who have been affected.”

Compare and contrast the actions of US airline Delta when faced with the same situation.
Delta to Honor Internet Deals Like $6.90 Trip to Hawaii

Delta Air Lines Inc. (DAL) said it will honor tickets sold at incorrect prices today on its website and through other booking channels after customers snapped up bargains like a round trip to Hawaii for $6.90.

The wrong prices were available for about a two-hour period beginning at about 10 a.m. New York time, said Trebor Banstetter, a spokesman for the Atlanta-based airline. The carrier doesn’t know the number of tickets sold at the incorrect prices or have an estimate of the financial impact, Banstetter said in a telephone interview.

Customers began to swap stories of the low fares, such as round-trip flights across the country for $50, on Twitter. Eric Gesimondo, who graduates in January from Elon University in North Carolina, booked a round-trip ticket from Boston to Hawaii in March that cost about $68 after $61 of taxes.

“I’m so broke; this is a miracle,” Gesimondo, 21, who has never visited Hawaii, said in a telephone interview. “It’s a little graduation gift.”

Price glitches in airfares have become common enough that some savvy customers actually look for them to happen. The website farecompare.com lists five things you need to know to find mistaken airfares. The word of fare deals spreads quickly online as friends, family and colleagues tip each other off on the bargains, boosting the normal traffic for airfare purchases.

United Airlines has had at least four public computer pricing disruptions since March 2012. In September United passengers were allowed to use tickets they got for free because of faulty reservations data.

For Delta, the third-largest airline in the U.S., it’s the first time it’s had a website pricing error in “recent years,” Banstetter said. Delta is investigating what happened, he said.

Gesimondo was told by a friend of his brother about the cheap fares. He will meet his brother, who also bought a round-trip ticket to Hawaii from San Francisco for about $60 with taxes, and they’ll stay at a friend’s house there.

“It’s going to be a $70 trip for eight nights in Hawaii,” Gesimondo said. “I guess I was one of the lucky ones.”

Not everyone wins. Amanda Maher of Boston said she put in a purchase order for two round-trip tickets to Nashville, Tennessee, from Boston for a total of $104 through Priceline.com and got a confirmation code. When she called later to check on the tickets, Priceline.com said the transaction wasn’t valid.

Re: Stupid SQ accidentally give 50% discount to Business class, now want to recover m

it only proves that there is pent-up demand for business class with a lower fare or a class between business and economy that has a reasonably-priced fare (higher than economy but much lower than business). sq's business class fares are way too high, sometimes 6 times that of economy. if sia reconfigure their long haul flights to host more business light or premium economy seats at 2 to 3 times that of economy class pricing, planes will fill up, and margins will climb. catering more than two thirds of the plane to cattle or coach passengers at cut-throat prices is a losing proposition and will only chart the course for a slow demise.

This shows the mentality of the people running spore airlines. If lets say you sell your car to a car dealer at $30k and all paper work done and money transferred then car dealer realised that your aircon is not working....does he call you to return him $300 to fix it? No right!!!!

If it's an honest mistake why cannot claim back the money? Honest what! Only cheapskate passengers want to take advantage of an honest mistake made by an honest company owned by an honest government.

Look at how other airlines are handling "honest mistakes", they are getting a positive PR spin on their mistakes & have gotten goodwill which may win future customers
SIA on the other hand is run like a family bizness & obviously special treatment & freebees are only given to family & friends of the famiLee.

I have flown business class with SIA when the company I was working with was paying for the ticket. SIA has a budget carrier mentality. They never pass up the opportunity to "nickel & dimed" money from their customers e.g. charging extra for exceeding your luggage allowance. Never had any problems with other airlines except SIA.
