They can feed whatever bs they want - the point is whether inside, outside or blowjob, the vandal has struck and Desmond Kuek and his band of idiotic ex-military senior guys are totally clueless and speechless beyond the usual " we will investigate."

And arseholes like them were tasked with defending the country when they were in the army?

Well, that just happen. We had them to defend us for so many donkey years. Suddenly we found out that they are completely clueless and incompetent.

Re: latest smrt train vandalism most likely inside job

I have a suspicion that after this incident, they went looking at the fences and security cameras and realised there are so many "holes"- maybe fences not repaired, cameras not working, etc. So to save face, simply say it is an insider job.

What holes, what cameras....they employ so many " guess the race".... part of the fences maybe missing, the camera got "shell", but nothing inside...look like the impressive thing designed in US of A...but this one....MADE IN CHINA.."fakes"....just like the "paper general" & his "kawans from SAF"....nice looking "shell"...empty inside...

You employ what you get....ALL SMRT STAFF.stand by bed!......ha ha ha while they "investigate inside job"....or the "italian job"...ha ha ha ha

4th incident – SMRT vows to step up security measures

Two Germans have been arrested yesterday (21 Nov) for vandalising an SMRT train in Bishan Depot on 8 Nov.

They were nabbed with the help of Malaysian police at Kuala Lumpur International Airport on Thursday (20 Nov) and extradited to Singapore yesterday. They were about to board a plane to Australia.

The police are still investigating how the two men, first-time visitors to Singapore, allegedly gained access to Bishan Depot to spray graffiti on a train. The 2 flew off on the same day SMRT discovered the graffiti.

There was speculation that it had been an inside job then after SMRT said no intrusion was detected, but the latest revelation raises fresh questions about security at SMRT’s train depots.

This is the fourth vandalism incident involving SMRT in 4 years.

The first case of vandalism occurred in May 2010 when two men cut through the fence and spray-painted graffiti on a train at SMRT’s Changi depot. One of the vandals was a Swiss foreign talent Oliver Fricker. He was jailed for 7 months and given 3 strokes of the cane, while his accomplice, Briton Lloyd Dane Alexander, remains at large.

Fricker came to Singapore to work as a software consultant at Zurich-based financial software maker Comit AG in 2008. At the time the incident happened, Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew said, “We had graffiti experts from England and Switzerland who came here to show that they can break our laws. Well, we caught one of them and he has to pay the penalty. It’s harsh, but that is the way to keep it.”

In fact, in the first incident, the train was already in service for 2 days before someone raised the alarm. The SMRT staff had thought that the graffiti was some sort of an advertisement.

The second incident took place in August 2011 when a hole was cut in the fence at Bishan depot, and the words “Jet Setter’s” were spray-painted on a train. No one has been caught yet.

The third incident took place on 5 May this year, again at Bishan depot but no one has been caught also.

An SMRT spokesman vowed yesterday to strengthen all its security measures, “We are mindful of public concern… We have in place a set of measures such as interior and exterior checks of trains to detect any suspicious object or activity.”

“SMRT is working with the relevant agencies to strengthen all security measures in place,” he added.

Apparently, SMRT has been increasing its patrols, switching its security contractors and putting in intrusion detection systems. Still, it can’t prevent the 4th incident of vandalism from happening.

Meanwhile, the 2 Germans were charged in court today (22 Nov).

Andreas Von Knorre and Elton Hinz, both aged 21, face two charges each for entering the depot without authorisation, and committing the act of vandalism. If found guilty of vandalism, Knorre and Hinz could be jailed for up to three years, or fined up to $2,000. They may also face between three and eight strokes of the cane. For trespassing, they could be fined $1,000 or face a jail term of up to two years or both, if found guilty.

They will next appear at the State Court on Nov 28 at 10am, at court 26.

Ohhh pleasee ......
No more false promises.

Perhaps this SMRT CEO was more busy with his SMRT expansion and investment plans than the security issue.

As far as I know, three times and three strikes and YOU ARE OUT ! YOU ARE FIRED ! ! !

Whoever is in charge of SMRT security should be fired. Along with the next 2 top guys too !
Four times breach of security is indeed UNACCEPTABLE ! ! !

So far we were lucky as they were just pranks and vandalism. What if the trains were tempered with or worst still .... a time bomb was planted ? !

As I traveled by train from Khatib to Yio Chu Kio, I can see one can easily entered the security area from the fishing area and the fences along there were only partially installed with barbwire with many areas incomplete yet. I wonder why it was stopped ?

Let's not play or fool around with the commuters' safety and get the right men to do the job in SMRT security department !

Is SMRT really taking this security breach issue seriously ? ! ! !
Four times failure is indeed NOT ACCEPTABLE and INCOMPETENT ! ! ! ! ! !

A Korean/Japanese CEO in Desmond Kuek's position would have resigned long ago

The fourth security breach in 10 months would have rendered great shame on the CEO and the board of directors anywhere else in the world. But not in Singapore. Here, the board is totally silent (but keep collecting their fees) and the CEO is missing. The company issues a statement that they will try harder, yet again.

These shameless "leaders" of a listed company whose major shareholder is Temasek (ie Singaporeans) have no sense of responsibility and we shareholders are totally helpless.

Even the fines that are imposed are meaningless - it is the shareholders who are penalised for the Desmond Kuek's incompetence.

In Japan the minister in charge would have committed hara-kiri, in SINGapore, the minister would be promoted for a job well done & praised for doing the job well....the commuters are the ones commuting hara-kiri!!

Or, in a worst case scenario, get transferred to another ministry.
Like VB to be in charge of longkangs.
Or Police Chief to help him when even this, he cannot do a good job.
Between an eye-surgeon and a cock-up police chief, we should have a winning combination.

Even the rats are coming out to play, when they know VB is in charge. The ex-police chief should help to get rid of rats in SG.
