SINGAPORE - With more rainy days expected ahead, the Public Utilities Board (PUB) has listed 48 flood-prone areas and 55 hotspots on its website.

According to PUB, flood prone areas are those areas which are low-lying, with a history of flooding. Hotspots, on the other hand, are areas which are not low-lying but had experienced flash flood.

Some of the flood-prone areas include the Jalan Besar area, Stevens Road, Arab St/Rochor Canal, Tiong Bahru Road, Sennett Estate, Bedok South Road and Upper East Coast Road.

Hotspots identified include Cuscaden Road and Orchard Road, Maxwell Road, Upper Thomson Road, Sixth Avenue, Lorong Ah Soo, Mount Elizabeth and Chai Chee Road.

For more information on the flood prone areas and hotspots, go to http://www.pub.gov.sg/managingflashfloods/fpa/Pages/FloodProneList.aspx.

The Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS) said in a monsoon advisory on Tuesday that the first half of November has been wetter than usual in many parts of the island, with 188mm of rainfall already recorded for the month at the Changi climate station.

The national authority on weather and climate also said that rainfall for November and December is expected to be about 20 per cent above the long-term average of 256.6mm and 288.4mm respectively.

The PUB advises pedestrians caught in a flash flood to move to higher ground and stay alert for open drains. Motorists who find floodwaters rising around their vehicles should abandon them and also seek higher ground.
