Unhappy with a police officer who had arrested him two weeks earlier for suspected drug offences, Suhaimi Naib assaulted the cop after being spotted in the same neighbourhood and approached for a routine check.
Suhaimi, 45, punched Mr Muhammad Hafiz Ahmad, 24, in the face after the officer and his colleagues identified themselves and followed him to a carpark in Bukit Batok East Avenue 3.
He was subdued but later told the police sergeant in Malay: "I will find you after your work. I want to whack you."
Yesterday, Suhaimi was sentenced to 10 weeks in jail for voluntarily hurting Mr Muhammad Hafiz on Aug 15, leaving him with a bruise on his cheek.
Suhaimi, then a technician, was also fined $2,500 for verbally abusing the same officer when he was arrested earlier for suspected drug consumption.
His total jail term comes up to three months, after a district court ordered that the 10-week stint run concurrently with another prison term.
This was for threatening to kill a 30-year-old woman through her flat gate, while brandishing a letter opener.
The court heard that at about 1.20am on Aug 1, the policeman and his colleagues approached Suhaimi at a coffee shop in Bukit Batok East Avenue 4, after noticing his bloodshot eyes and slurred speech.
After being arrested, Suhaimi repeatedly challenged Mr Muhammad Hafiz to a fight.
On Sept 12, he fought with another man at the same coffee shop. The next day, Suhaimi turned up at the man's HDB flat in Bukit Batok East Avenue 3, intending to confront him one more time.
But the man was not at home. So Suhaimi ended up threatening the woman, along with another man in the flat. His victim was carrying her six-month-old child in her arms at the time.
Suhaimi, who was fined another $1,500 for the fight, pleaded guilty to four charges, with six offences taken into consideration.
He could have been jailed for up to seven years, caned and fined for hurting the police officer. For threatening to kill the woman, he could have been jailed for up to 10 years and fined.

Now we wait for syed putra to come in for praising this m&d for being so garang while you know other races aka chinese are so cowardly.

It's a pity the arresting officer is a malay too if not he could have made another remark on how useless the police officer is. Ah yes the officer is a much younger man in his 20s but the perp who is in his mid 40s still has the guts to fight him see how garang he is.
