SEPANG - A 25-year-old woman was charged in a magistrate's court here with supporting Islamic State (IS) militants.
Ummi Kalsom Bahak, dressed in robe and veil, appeared calm as the interpreter read the charges.
The accused, who is from Negri Sembilan, was charged with offering support, including agreeing to marry a known militant by the name of Aqif Huessin Rahaizat, 25, by boarding an AirAsia flight to Brunei and eventually to Istanbul, Turkey.
The credit control assistant who worked in Damansara was arrested at the Immigration counter at the KLIA2 at about 5.20am on Oct 5.
The woman, who is the third of six siblings, could face life imprisonment or up to 30 years in jail under Section 130J of the Penal Code for aiding and assisting in terror activities, upon conviction.
Other than being fined, her assets that were used or intended to be used for the offence could be seized as well.
She faced an alternative charge of flying from KLIA2 to Brunei to give support to IS by entering Syria after flying from Brunei to Istanbul and to get married to Aqif Huessin for the benefit of the militant group.
No plea was recorded and the charge does not have provision for bail.
Magistrate Aizatul Akmal Maharani set Nov 20 for mention before the case, prosecuted by DPP Wan Sharuddin Wan Ladin, is transferred to the High Court.
To date, 14 people have been charged with recruiting and supporting efforts to send Malaysians to fight in Syria.
Twelve of them were charged with terrorist offences and two others under the Firearms Act.
Up to 37 suspected militants have been rounded up so far by Bukit Aman's Special Branch Counter-Terrorism Division, which is also hunting for former college student Syamimi Faiqah, who left on a Turkey-bound flight from KLIA on Oct 4.

There's nothing wrong with giving moral support to ISIS, but it is understandable why they would want to clamp down on financial, personnel or logistical support.
